President Barack Obama says the federal government wont go after recreational marijuana use in Washington state and Colorado, where voters have legalized it.
In a Barbara Walters interview airing Friday on ABC, Obama was asked whether he supports making pot legal.
I wouldnt go that far, Obama replied. But what I think is that, at this point, Washington and Colorado, youve seen the voters speak on this issue.
But the president said he wont pursue the issue in the two states where voters legalized the use of marijuana in the November elections. Marijuana remains illegal under federal law.

I already can see Barry making more and more trips to Washington and Colorado over the next four years.
Now Obama has a good place to get quality weed. Just wait til his daughters start usin’.
Giving the signal for a bunch of additional states to follow suit. Then in 2016 the Republican nominee will be tied-down answering questions on whether he intends to go after marijuana users in the 6, 8 or 15 states that have legalized it. (and due to electoral college calculations, the answer will obviously be “no”)
Here again we see this supposed “President” CHOOSING
which laws to enforce.
It isn’t up to him!
President Choom.
What a flipping liar.
The feds are already jailing people who have small amounts of pot.
They have shut down all the dispensaries in CA.
In CO the dispensaries are prohibited from having bank accounts as dispensaries.
As we may remember he wasn’t necessarily for Gay marriage before he “evolved” and was for it. So.......he’ll evolve on marijuana no doubt......until his daughters want to use it ;-)
Will you insist he enforce all provisions of Obamacare? What about an assault weapons ban if one is signed in to law?
The Feds currently do not prosecute small possession cases. There were some new border patrol idiots doing interior checkpoints up in the Olympic Peninsula in Washington (ridiculous in itself) and they found some pot during a search and arrested the checkpointees. The US Attorney in Seattle screamed at them for doing so (they do not do marijuana possession cases) and dropped the charges. They were stuck with trying to find a local agency to arrest them.
And the list of federal laws Obama refuses to enforce continues to grow: DOMA, immigration law, now drug laws, and who knows what else.
No one will have to inist that he enforce those. And that's the whole point; he enforces what he wants to enforce and ignores what he doesn't want to enforce: immigration law, DOMA and now some drug laws.
The Republicans had better learn the tenth amendment and state a position on this. Obama has all but embraced the tenth amendment, although he would not be consistent with other issues. The people can learn how our government is supposed to work if conservatives get our in front and lead for a change.
It will be legal for every adult in CO to grow up to six plants. That may well turn into a multi-million dollar cottage industry.
Maybe you'd like mandatory checks of people's homes by fed agents to shut these down? If you're willing to see the Tenth walked over, why not the Fourth as well?
Ladies and gentlemen, that is his new base. Expect 48 more initiatives to legalize pot in the next election cycle and attach that to dim candidates supporting the issue.
Well, even a stopped clock....
Whether that’s the whole point or not, humor me and answer my question, please.
