White people will no longer make up a majority of Americans by 2043, according to new census projections, part of a historic shift that is already reshaping the nation's schools, workforce and electorate.
The official projection, released Wednesday by the Census Bureau, now places the tipping point for the white majority a year later than previous estimates, which were made before the impact of the recent economic downturn was fully known.
America continues to grow and become more diverse due to higher birth rates among minorities, particularly for Hispanics who entered the U.S. at the height of the immigration boom in the 1990s and early 2000s. Since the mid-2000 housing bust, however, the arrival of millions of new immigrants from Mexico and other nations has slowed, pushing minority growth below its once-torrid pace.
The country's changing demographic mosaic has stark political implications, shown clearly in last month's election that gave President Barack Obama a second term — in no small part due to his support from 78 percent of non-white voters.
The non-Hispanic white population, now at 197.8 million, is projected to peak at 200 million in 2024, before entering a steady decline in absolute numbers as the massive baby boomer generation enters its golden years.
"The fast-growing demographic today is now the children of immigrants," said Marcelo Suarez-Orozco, a global expert on immigration and dean of UCLA's Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, describing the rate of minority growth in the U.S. as dipping from "overdrive" to "drive." Even with slowing immigration, Suarez-Orozco says, the "die has been cast" for strong minority growth from births.
As recently as 1960, whites made up 85 percent of the U.S., but that share dropped after a 1965 overhaul to U.S. immigration laws opened doors to waves of new immigrants from Mexico...

Sounds good to me. I’d rather be stuck underground for life than live in a 3rd world country. I’m originally from the Philly area, so I know how it will be. Demographics is destiny.
According to wikipedia.com, MA’s non-hispanic white population is 76.4%-——making it VASTLY more white than CA.
Russia has its own demographic time bomb. The birth rate in Russia has been so low for so long that, despite a small, very recent uptick, by 2050 it will most likely have 30 million fewer people than it does now.
Great we can all sit on our butts and let all the current minorities work only to have their money stolen to support us.
Lets see how great a society they build and see how it compares to the white majority. After all they did so well in their countries of origin right?

I remember seeing an old WWI cartoon showing Uncle Sam and John Bull shaking hands in the war against the Kaiser.
The caption was...”WE Anglo-Saxon nations have to stick together!”
But then, that was then.
That’s not something I have to worry about since I probably won’t be alive to see the demise of this formerly great country.
I know. And if you look at blacks in most of these commercials, they are ALWAYS in nice middle class suburban neighborhoods, (like something out of the Brady Bunch) and have traditional nuclear families, even though the reality of the situation is precisely the polar opposite portrayed in these commercials. Another thing....have you ever noticed in the commercials to protect homeowners againsts burglars and intruders, the the criminals breaking into homes are ALWAYS portrayed as non-hispanic WHITES! ALWAYS! Without exception.

I’d bet money that they don’t have a clue when or what the makeup of the US will be in 2043. Also, I don’t plan to give up teaching and preaching what is right about our country. Too much giving up on here IMO. It’s very unAmerican! I grew up in Oklahoma which has always had a large Indian population. It’s one of the reddest states in the union. No county voted for Obama in 2008 or 2012.
This is only true if you keep Hispanic whites from adopting English and assimilating into the general population.

Interesting observation. Do the Indians in OK live mostly on reservations or have they mixed in with the general population?
Australia & New Zealand shouldn't change much, either. They do have some Asian immigration, but those immigrants believe in western values and assimilate, and the amount of black (2.2%), Hispanic (0.62%), and Arab (1.71%) population is Australia is statistically insignificant and projected to remain so.
Hey!I’m not giving up if I get to 2045 I’ll be about 100 years old.Something that I think with my families history is highly unlikely.
So I’m just being realistic.
Didn’t they predict this would happen in 2040 the last time around?
