London: Britain's Ministry of Defence says a Sikh soldier has become the first guardsman to parade outside Buckingham Palace while wearing his traditional turban. Fifty family members were on hand on Tuesday as Guardsman Jatinderpal Singh Bhullar as he took part in the changing of the guard at the London home of Queen Elizabeth II.

and might I add...if Hassan was a Shikh the people here would say he should be allowed to keep his beard. But because Hasan is a Muslim - will you say he should conform to the Regulations and the Court System.

If the rationale here is that Shikh’s are good guys so let them wear turbans in the UK - then you have to be okay with letting them wear their Turbans in the US while on duty. As well as other non-uniform religious items. Like Burkas. Islamic Head Wraps, etc.

First, the military uniforms of the U.K. are up to the U.K.; the military uniforms of the U.S. are up to the U.S. If one expresses support for the U.K. military wearing kilts it does not follow that one is implicitly supporting kilt-wearing for the U.S. military.

Second, "good guys" or not is not the point in U.K. military regulations. Military regulations are military regulations. U.K. military regulations provide for various distinctive uniform elements: they allow Scots units to wear kilts and Australian units to wear Slouch hats, etc.

It's fairly obvious that these special uniforms are rooted in the tradition of the various Commonwealth nations, and some of the traditions go back hundreds of years, long before the present multiculturalism and globalism began. It was simple common sense to not attempt to dissolve defeated militaries, but to employ them. This meant allowing them to continue with expressions of their own traditions in order to facilitate their reliable integration into the British Empire's military.

There certainly was no "special treatment" outside of the rules: this guy's cover is exactly that which is specified by the unit he is in. This is not a case of him being granted a waiver to wear some religious headpiece.

You'll find the U.S. military (and every successful military) has the same general approach: soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen wear the uniform of their unit according to rules and regulations.

The Sikhs have served the British with incredibly loyalty and terrific effectiveness for 100 years. The U.S. does not have any such allied group. I have no problem with this.

Nidal Hasan, a MUSLIM TERRORIST- was ordered by a Judge and the The US Army Court of Criminal Appeals to shave his beard.

The highest military appellate court in the United States
removed the Judge and vacated the order to shave the beard. They left it open about what to do about the beard.

Should the MUSLIM terrorist have to conform to Army Regulations to shave the beard? A beard that many feel he is using to disguise himself.

His reasoning for having the beard? He is crippled due to the shooting and his life expectancy is shorter. His religion requires him to leave his earth as he walked it.

HE IS NO LONGER WILLING TO TAKE THE AFTERLIFE RISK HE DID BEFORE THE SHOOTING WHEN HE WAS IN THE ARMY SHAVING HIS FACE.

We had a Sikh in our infantry battalion 1968-9. He wore standard uniform except for the turban and ceremonial dagger. Outstanding troop in every way and a nice guy to boot.
It gave some folks a case of the fantods to see one white turban amongst the green bus driver hats on dress formation occasions, though! Since he was a tall man, he really stood out.
I don’t recall whether he wore a steel pot in the field or not.

Btw,You are also entirely missing the point.

The Shikh is being given an exemption to regulation wear.

If that is okay for you to accept, then you should also be willing to accept it for the US.

IF you are willing to accept the exemption for the “good guy” Shikhs, then you must also give the exemption for others. Such as women wearing a Hajib with their Navy uniform.

It’s all about the slippery slope.

So many of you applaud the exemption for the Shikh. But I absolutely guarantee many of you (but maybe not all of you) will NOT feel the same way about certain others that get exemptions based on Religious reasoning.

For the first time in 23 years, the U.S. Army is allowing a pair of Sikh Soldiers to keep their hair and beard intact and wear a turban.

There is a reason for everything in the military. Uniforms are supposed to be, well, uniform. It helps unit cohesiveness. Short hair also is part of this. Plus it takes less maintenance. In Basic by the time we got the the barber (I think it was a week in) we couldn't wait to get it all cut off; we didn't have time to take care of longer hair.

The beard ban though has one very important reason for continuing; gas masks. With facial hair the mask cannot form a barrier to the chem of bio agents.

The Sikh people are good citizens, peaceful and productive. However if they will not conform to the demands of the uniform in the military they must not be allowed to serve. In addition there are many Sikhs who do not dress in traditional garb and do cut their hair and shave. In the Milwaukee area we learned allot about their culture after a recent temple shooting....

You'll have to forgive me for not quoting Paul over Jesus, it's just that I find that Jesus' words mean so much more when used by themselves or in conjunction with the Old Testament from where he is teaching.

Christianity is all about the big show these days, it has been for a while. It's all about who can quote the most "relevant" quotes to people they've never met or rarely see on Facebook or Freerepublic, who has the biggest church and the bigest tv shows, etc.
