Justice Scalia Defends Controversial Opinions About Gays At Princeton
Business Insider ^ | 12/11/2012 | Abby Rogers

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia went to head to head Monday night with a gay student at Princeton University over the jurist's opinions about homosexuality.

Duncan Hosie took issue with Scalia equating laws banning sodomy to laws against bestiality and murder.

"It's a form of argument that I thought you would have known, which is called the 'reduction to the absurd,'" Scalia said, according to the Associated Press. "If we cannot have moral feelings against homosexuality, can we have it against murder? Can we have it against other things?"

The high court's most outspoken justice stressed he wasn't equating sodomy and murder, but rather the bans on both, the AP reported.

Scalia's views on homosexuality will be a huge source of debate in March, when the court is scheduled to hear arguments in the two gay marriage cases it recently agreed to take on.

The heading itself is an interesting case study in propaganda. Note the use of the word “defends” and the description of HIS opinion as “controversial.” Note the difference in tone with this headline: “Student Pushes Controversial Opinion of Homosexuality” or “Student Attempts to Push Controversial Sodomy Acceptance Views on Supreme Court Justice.” It’s done in so many ways, but the use of words like “controversial,” “defend(s),” and “admits,” along with any word ending in “-phobia” are common propaganda tools.

It never ceases to amaze me that some barely post-pubescent college boy or girl would be so arrogant as to think that a United States Supreme Court Justice couldn't run the table on him or her in a game of wits.

Debate Scalia at your own risk.
His great talent which is rare is being able to articulate his positions in a way that crushs those opposed.

Can we regulate morality? How about murder? How about discrimination? How about rape?

How about forcing people to buy O-care?

Congratulations! You've discovered Kant's principle of universality.

I’m so used to noticing how the left frames things to suit their agenda that I “don’t” notice anymore, I just mentally ignore the framing.

Thanks for your good-humored response.

I just can't resist showing off my Philosophy 101 knowledge from 35 years ago. It's why my wife fondly calls me "Mr Know-It-All," and why I am so popular at parties.

Well he did dumb it down somewhat: he refers to “reducing to absurd” rather than the Latin “Reductio ad absurdum”. Probably knew that would go right over their pointy leftist heads!

Exactly.

I was a little Catholic girl, about age 9. On Easter Sunday, my brother and I were delivering newspapers. It was a HUGE route.

Someone gave us an Easter Basket with plenty of candy. I took one piece and realized that I had broken my midnight fast (to receive communion).

I decided that no harm would be done and received communion.

It was many years later that I found out that these were man made rules and while useful, were subject to change and circumstance. There is no required fasting at this time.

Thank you, God, for someone with some sense who can talk at the same time.

"It's a form of argument that I thought you would have known, which is called the 'reduction to the absurd,'"

There was a time when it was posited that liberalization of adultery laws would lead to promiscuity and tolerance for homosexuality too. I guess Mr. Hosee (misspelling intended) would have called that 'reduction to the absurd' as well.

Scalia can think. It’s pretty obvious that certain Princeton students cannot.

It's near impossible to land a commonsense idea on the pointed head of an Academic.. Didn't your parents teach you about this stuff? ... :)

I certainly respect your thoughts. God intervened for Israel as they rose and fell in their faith and in their sins. Perhaps He will do so again for us, or else perhaps our sign of impending doom will appear sooner than later. His sweet patience, however, is not endless, which I believe we must agree. Thx.

I understand why you feel the way you do and its the propaganda that the news media and television put out...all of my children sit down to dinner with their children except one that is divorced but he and his kids get along fine. Cheer up and tell the media and newspapers to go to he!!. There are more of us than there are of them....When they were youngsters the dinning room table and dinner were learning experiences for them...like we camped from michigan to colorado to florida. One question would be asked and the one that remembered the most states got a “good going” from mom and dad. Just as example of dinner...Lots of people like you and me and probably the majority of freepers do the same thing.....once in a while as a teen, the boys would get a butt kick for being stupid....lesson learned :O)

I would argue that point with you, granny, esp. considering the events of last month. That's not to say that many of us stayed home or had our votes "lost" by some malfeasance, but more people will suffer the emotional and morale degradation I have and feel there's little hope for the greatness of America.

I will persevere, but I fear the costs to live will increase greatly in the coming year.

African-Americans and Latinos are disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS.

Blacks accounted for 45% of new HIV infections in 2006 and 47% of those living with the disease, yet they make up only 12% of the U.S. population.

Latinos account for 17% of new infections yet comprise 15% of the U.S. population, while whites represent 35% of new infections and account for 66% of the total population.

The AIDS case rate for African Americans is more than 9 times that of whites, and the HIV rate is 7 times greater among blacks than whites. Survival after an AIDS diagnosis is lower for blacks than any other racial/ethnic group.

Young adults and teens between 13 and 29 represent 34% of new HIV infections, the largest share of any age group. Black teens are disproportionately affected, representing 68% of reported AIDS cases among 13 to 19-year-olds in 2007.

New infections due to injection drug use have declined by about 80% since the mid-to-late 1990s, accounting for 12% of new infections in 2006.

Women now account for 27% of HIV infections, with 280,000 women living with HIV and AIDS. Black women accounted for 65% of new AIDS cases among women in 2007 and the largest share of new HIV infections (61%).

71% of all AIDS cases reported since the beginning of the epidemic are concentrated in 10 states or territories. While the District of Columbia has the highest AIDS case rate (148.1 per 100,000 in 2007), the states of New York (17.6%), California (14.4%) and Florida (10.6%) have the most cumulative AIDS cases

So who are the HOMOS?

WHITES with AIDS : 1

BLACKS with AIDS : 1 2 3 5 6 7 8 9
