BELLEVUE, WA Todays arrest of Illinois State Sen. Donne Trotter by authorities at OHare International Airport for having a gun in his carry-on bag is a revealing look at the hypocrisy of anti-gunners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Trotter was arrested at a security checkpoint early this morning. A candidate for the 2nd Congressional District seat vacated recently by Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., Trotter had a .25-caliber Beretta semiautomatic pistol in his bag. The Chicago Tribune said Trotter told police he worked late last night as a security guard and didnt realize the pistol was in his bag.
Trotter is a South Side Democrat and he was a leader in the move to ban so-called assault weapons during his first term as a state representative, noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. A man who favored banning firearms for thousands of his fellow Illinois residents shouldnt even have a gun, much less be packing one illegally into an airport.
Trotter has reportedly been charged with one count of attempting to board an airplane with a weapon, which is a Class 4 felony.
Senator Trotter, by his own action, has demonstrated the monumental hypocrisy of gun control advocates who try to disarm average citizens while reserving the right to bear arms for themselves alone, Gottlieb observed. He should not even be serving in the state legislature, much less be running for a seat in Congress, which already has its share of gun prohibition hypocrites.
Todays incident underscores just how pathetic the anti-gun philosophy has gotten, he concluded. Perhaps now he will realize how other citizens feel when they run afoul of some anti-gun law or regulation. He should apologize to every gun owner in Illinois.
With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nations premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425) 454-4911, on the Internet at www.ccrkba.org or by email to InformationRequest@ccrkba.org.
That said, there should be provisions in the airport security law that allow for small fines in cases where a simple mistake was made. With over 8 million concealed carriers in the nation, hundreds of simple mistakes happen at airports over a year. There is no reason to ruin these peoples lives because they got busy and forgot to remove the magazine in the side pocket of their breifcase.
‘Many anti-freedom types have no problems with guns for *them*, as long as there are no guns for you’
Well said, thanks for posting that.
Technically, an accused crime of “attempting to board an aircraft with a gun” ought to be defensible through showing that there was no attempt at such an act involved. In practice that’s tricky. Sometimes plead-downs from such accusations occur. There is notably no huge fuss about it.
They aren’t really “anti-gun”,
they’re elitists.
The sooner we realize that these people intend to RULE OVER us, the better we’ll be able to deal with them.
Accepting their “surface” arguments is arguing with the fool in his folly. Attack the underlying, real issue - their elitism.
A security guard in Chicago with a .25acp Beretta? The man has faith!
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Here’s a real ^laugher^ as a follow-up.
If the Senator is convicted of the Class-4 felony, he would be ineligible to vote in a federal election (I wonder if that can be construed to mean voting in the federal congress?).
Allow me to be the first to say it:
“He wouldn’t still be waitin’ for bail if he wasn’t a Black Man! A Black Man can’t get no justice in White America!”
There you go. You’re welcome, progressives. I said it for you.
(Seriously, how long before we hear this from someone on MSNBC? Or has it already been mentioned?)
So we have an idiot rent-a-cop (no offense to anyone who is a security guard, unless you’re stupid enough to try to take a gun on an airplane) running for Senator? We’re in good hands.
My goodness... not only is this guy a hypocrite and an @$$#01e, he's an idiot to boot.
After completing his sentence/parole/probation, he would.
Just to be clear, a sure mark of an idiot.
(No offense to any Freepers who own a .25acp, anyone out there who has one go trade it for anything else, even a .22.)
The problem is determining what is “Just a mistake”.
Soon you end up with the left wing elites being able to claim “ I’m a left wing somebody, it’s just a mistake” and everyone else the ‘unimportant” people it’s “you are a right wing hater, why should we believe you”.
Chris Mathews is just one of many left wing elitist freaks one step away from going postal.
Would you like him to be able to claim “it’s just a mistake”?
At one time, I owned one, not the only gun I owned. Couldn’t hit the side of a barn with it.
Geez....at least make it a .45 or .454, not a wimpy little .25.
And yes he is a hypocrit. As is Diane Feinstein who, though the author of much gun control legislation in Congress, carries a Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum in her skirt waist band.
“Guns for me, not for thee”.
Saturday Night Special drop gun.
I call Bravo-Sierra on this. Gun in question according to the article was a .25 caliber Beretta. I know of *NO* reputable security company which uses/allows their personnel to use something like that 'on the job'. This punk is lying out his *$$...

“no offense to anyone who is a security guard”
None taken.
In NY we aren’t allowed to be armed unless we are at an armed site, have a pistol permit, took a 46 hour course, etc etc and even then if something goes down you are expected to just curl up and die.
Unarmed site, you are only allowed either a flashlight or a radio for defense, and Heaven help you if you have to defend yourself because the law will go after you -the guard- instead of the criminal who forced you to defend yourself.
Welcome to employment in Security in NY.
I've worked private security. Usually, the type and caliber of weapon carried by a legitimate security guard is regulated by state law. I know of *NO* state where a weapon in .25apc is allowed. It is invariably nine millimeter or above. This "elitist" is lying, plain and simple, while being a not very good liar at that...
