SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — The city attorney of San Bernardino is under scrutiny for telling residents to “lock their doors and load their guns” during a city council meeting.
The official explained that because the city is bankrupt and slashing public safety budgets people will need to start protecting themselves.

Big deal. If some city attorney told people to lock their doors and load their guns in Arizona, he would get funny looks, and somebody would say “and...?”, utterly puzzled at why he was giving common sense advice.
The bottom line is that police and other LEOs are just a convenience, to keep up a 24/7 pressure on the bad guys, and to spend time “policing up and pursuing” after the fact.
Every citizen has an implied responsibility with their second amendment right to bear arms, that if they are capable, they are to promulgate order and civility, prevent crime and interfere with criminals as they see fit.
And with this implied responsibility comes considerably more latitude to do so than is allowed for police and other LEOs. The public are not required to read Miranda rights, or to attempt arrest beyond an oral warning; if they need to incapacitate or kill someone committing a felony, to a great extent they are free to do so.
An armed citizenry almost guarantees greater civility and less crime. So it is a grand idea under any circumstances, even in a godforsaken place like California.
According to this article San Bernadino,a city of 209,000 (I looked it up),had 43 murders in the first 11 months of the year.OTOH,New York City (population 8 million) had 193 murders in the first 6 months of 2012 (I looked it up).Kinda makes me glad I don’t live in San Bernadino.

I watched that new movie “Fire with Fire” with Bruce Willis in it. In one scene he got really pi$$ed at a US Marshall over a witness to one case he’d been pursuing since his partner was killed by an Aryan Leader Maniac (the new Muslims, I guess). The witness figured out he’d have to kill the Aryan Leader if he and his girlfriend were to ever be safe.
Bruce, the police lieutenant, went ballistic talking to the Marshall...He said, “let the witness stay with me! I have a Beretta, I have a Ruger Single Six, I have a Remington Tactical Shotgun, I’ll protect his ass if you pussies can’t.”
I kinda chuckled.....that ‘armory’ was just about half of what I keep under one side of one of my pillows! Ha Ha....
Especially when the police want you to comply with a thugs request and not resist as reported earlier this week on FR.

If every home had loaded arms and ready residents in it, the crime rate would be quite manageable.

But, remember, since it’s kali you can load no more than 10 rounds. You might go to jail while the “bad” guys empty your house before you can empty your 10 rd max magazine. Probably a tax on your stay in jail too.

While as a general truth, what you say applies to state government in spades, the cities, OTOH don’t spend their money on welfare and they do have “contracts” which preclude unilateral reductions in benes to their employees. I’ve read extensively about the current spate of municipal bankruptcies here in California and the one thing that they have in common is that they “public safety” employment is at least 80% of their budgets. So, in a nutshell, when they run out of money, they have no option but to cut the cops. The firefighters are another deal because here they usually have independent FP districts that are separate from the municipal government. The real issue is what we are going to pay cops going forward, what they get in retirement, and when they retire. Now, it’s at age 50 with a full ride into eternity and that just can’t stand. I recall in Vallejo, that a police lieutenent was getting $311k per year in pay and benefits, and he could sail off into the sunset at 50 with most of that staying with him.

You’re right, those people have their priorities completely inverted. Terminal case of cranial-rectal co-location syndrome.
Only in a liberal (socialist) state like Caliphoney woud a public official, especially a city or county attorney be “Under Scrutiny” for telling the citizenry to protect themselves.
San Bernardino is the poorest city of its population size in California, and the second poorest in the US next to Detroit, Michigan.
Surely there are areas that can be cut back rather than the safety and security of S.B.'s citizens. City government waste? Unsustainable pensions, a small cut there?

I thought you might be wrong but I looked up Los Angeles’ budget and sure enough 72% goes to Police (55%) and Fire (17%). And, having just moved from there, I can tell you that you can’t get a cop to come to your house inside an hour even if it is a multiple murder scene.
This city attorney is simply telling the truth.

Surely you gest! Prop 30 was “supposed to be for the children,” but when you read it, in had no internal constraints on where Jerry the Fairy could spend the money. He will spend in trying to shore up the state pensions, but it’s too little too late there too. Our state government is scrounging for money everywhere. I own property with an elevator. Now the “inspector” comes every 18 months instead of yearly, the permit fee has doubled and, he always finds something that I will need to spend money on with our service contractor after 12 years of finding nothing. Last time, we had to clean the cobwebs from the walls of the elevator shaft under penalty and time limit. We had it done, sent in the paperwork on time, an yet still received a threatening letter accusing us of not doing the “work” within the prescribed timeframe and proposing a stiff penalty . Now, just like the cops ticketing aggressively, we have all manner of “public service” agencies doing the same thing.They are all scared shitless that the gravy train is crapping out and they are going to have to give up their pampered existence.
You are right, good advice all the time. People need to realize that fundamentally we are all responsible for our own safety. Increasingly, the thin veneer of “protection” provided by police is being eroded by criminal-loving liberals, inverted budget priorities, and ever more emboldened criminals. My doors are always locked, there is always a loaded firearm within reach. I carry a loaded firearm with me in my vehicle. (legal in my state, even without a cc permit - which I am still waiting for the {expletive} paperwork to clear on) Liberals would try to smear this kind of behavior and belittle me as fearful and a gun nut. Far from it, I fear no man. I don’t live in fear because I an prepared to defend myself and my family, friends, and neighbors.
