Rand Paul – the only one left?

Glenn Beck
Nov 29, 2012

Glenn interviewed seemingly the only politician with a spine on radio today, Senator Rand Paul. While many Republicans are displaying a readiness to just throw out everything they said they believed in and cave to Obama, Sen. Paul is trying to hold the line. Check out the interview today in the clip above and find out how to get involved.

Drugs; Meth, Heroin, Crack, and anything new that science can come up with, zero restrictions.

These should be restricted to the same degree as the addictive mind-altering legal drug alcohol: sale only with a license, no sale to minors, etc. The War On Drugs is failing in all the ways that alcohol Prohibition failed.

(And as far as "anything new that science can come up with": they come up with new drugs because those new drugs are legal until law catches up; there will be fewer if any new drugs if they no longer enjoy that legal advantage.)

No one can accuse you of not being single minded and obsessed.

No one can accuse you of having the guts to actually argue for your position.

It appears that you will be hijacking this thread into yet another drug thread, it was pretty much dead anyway, so have fun.

While there are acknowledged problems with alcohol, I don’t think that studies have ever proven a connection with decreased IQ and schizophrenia from alcohol.

You are asking for defacto approval of drugs by the FDA that have shown that at least 2% of those who use the drugs develop schizophrenia with heavy use.

How many people do you know, who you would describe as having fried their brains on drugs? I’ve known several, several people who were hospitalized for mental illness that the doctors described as drug related.

The recent studies connect heavy marijuana use with schizophrenia. I had a friend whose brother spent most of his adult life in and out of mental hospitals due to a condition that the doctors said was the result of heavy drug use. My friend swore that the drug was just marijuana.

While there are acknowledged problems with alcohol,

Why do you effectively ignore those problems and focus solely on IQ and schizophrenia?

I don’t think that studies have ever proven a connection with decreased IQ

That was indicated only in those who used during adolescence; has nay such study even been done for alcohol?

and schizophrenia from alcohol.

No, what's been shown is a correlation between marijuana and schizophrenia - which can equally well be explained by schizophrenia leading to an attempt to self-medicate with marijuana, or by a common factor that leads to both marijuana use and schizophrenia.

"But here's the conundrum: while marijuana went from being a secret shared by a small community of hepcats and beatniks in the 1940s and '50s to a rite of passage for some 70% of youth by the turn of the century, rates of schizophrenia in the U.S. have remained flat, or possibly declined. For as long as it has been tracked, schizophrenia has been found to affect about 1% of the population." (http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2005559,00.html)

Only my uncle, who fried his brain on the addictive mind-altering drug alcohol.

The recent studies connect heavy marijuana use with schizophrenia.

"Connected" is not "caused" - see my previous post to you (#48).

Boo-hoo-hoo. If you don't want drugs discussed on a thread, don't introduce the subject as you did here (in post #18).

You are wrong, there have been definitive studies that show both, a decreased IQ of up to 8 points in marijuana users under 21 and at least 2% of the heavy marijuana users developing schizophrenia. Neither the IQ loss or the schizophrenia is curable. They are lives wasted.

It’s true that studies show a decreased use of marijuana among adults, but the sad part is that the same studies indicate a big increase in marijuana use among teenagers. Legalizing the drugs will not keep them out of the hands of teenagers.

No answer?

Where did I deny that? My question is whether any such study has even been done for alcohol.

and at least 2% of the heavy marijuana users developing schizophrenia.

Post a link to this alleged study. Then explain why although marijuana use went up, rates of schizophrenia in the U.S. have remained flat.

It’s true that studies show a decreased use of marijuana among adults, but the sad part is that the same studies indicate a big increase in marijuana use among teenagers. Legalizing the drugs will not keep them out of the hands of teenagers.

The available evidence is against you - teens report that they can get illegal-for-adults pot more easily than legal-for-adults beer or cigarettes.

My guess is that if there was any indication of a link between decreased IQ or schizophrenia and alcohol use, there would have been a study. Heck, my grandmother was president of her local WCTU for 20 years, I can assure you they would have done a study if there was any suggestion of a connection.

You are probably too young to know what the WCTU was. It stands for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

By the way, the release of the study, showing the link between cannabis and schizophrenia, has been called the “tobacco moment for marijuana”, meaning that there now no longer possible to claim that marijuana is harmless.

I don’t think I’ve met a schizophrenic my entire life. The government has told entirely too many lies to be credible on the subject. Not much different than the global warming lies.
Even their latest ‘study’ is teasing some deminimus differences in long time, hard core users and the best they can come up with is some rare instances it could maybe possibly exacerbate schizephrenia.

Don’t even start the comparisons to alcholol. Alcohol kills brain cells everytime it’s consumed; can’t help but think IQ is affected. The harm caused by alcohol is unmatched.

I can't recall Rand Paul pushing for that. He is a happily married man. I support him for his common sense views on spending. And that can include the billions our gov't spends on policing pot. It is ineffective at best since illegal pot is available in every city and town. The criminals make all the profit while tax payers pay for cops, defense lawyers, court clerks & bailiffs, judges, prison staff and prisons. Countries which have legalized pot show no more addiction than those where it is illegal. When common sense goes out the window, we tax payers always get stuck with the bill.

>> The dedicated libertarians, stick together. Imo.

>> It’s. Free pot. Free sex.

That’s liberalism, not libertarianism.

Libertarianism opposes statism. A simple fact that people need to understand.

A libertarian respects life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And I don’t care what the freaks at the Libertarian Party have as their platform.

Proof by guess - very impressive. My guess is that funding is more readily available for studies of illegal drugs, since the government hopes to bolster its case for the War On Drugs gravy train.

Heck, my grandmother was president of her local WCTU for 20 years, I can assure you they would have done a study if there was any suggestion of a connection.

You are probably too young to know what the WCTU was. It stands for the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

I have another guess: the WCTU doesn't do many scientific studies.

Then it should be easy for you to provide a link substantiating your claim.

It is an awful thing to envision the non-illegal distribution of narcotics on Main St. But people also need to be realistic about the arguably corrupt nature of the “war on drugs”, and whether or not it’s benefiting society.

I’m not a drug user, and I’m not for homosexual marriage. I’m not for slaughtering nascent life. And I’m not sure how the govt has improved upon any of these concerns.

We now have law on the books that will facilitate the persecution of those that refuse to support homosexual activity. What has DOMA done to prevent that?

Conservatism is the best societal model, but its implementation seems to require a degree of statism that’s proving to backfire. We’d be better off with sweeping repeal, and a conservative movement that is more aligned with libertarianism than statism.

FWIW, I’m not talking about the Libertarian Party’s idiotic agenda.
