What's in your bug out bag? My eldest calls them Good bags, Get out of Dodge. My second daughter (see home page) calls it her apocalypse crate, a rubber maid container filled with all the stuff she'll need, and has it in her car. It has all her old army stuff that couldn't be returned. For example, gas masks, mre's etc.
Ours has the normal stuff, blankets, food, flashlights, water, clothes, fire, ammo, etc. It might be a good thread to have input, suggestions, what's good, what's frivolous.
>>I have heard of folks renting houses in remote areas as a way of having an alternative location w/o the expense of buying a house.<<
Two friends of mine each tried that, and both times the local meth-heads broke in and squatted while it was unoccupied. Tore it all to hell.
If you do it right...one is enough.
At least we’re thinking about it. What’s your plan when the shtf, other and posting snarky comments online?

My, “BOB” is a boat with sails.
I'm planning on having a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.
Major Kong approved.
Definitely a good idea. However, I prefer lidocaine, even though it is Rx.
How cool is that? You won’t be out of salt then.
Don’t be so adamant, we can go to Kentucky and hang out with Nicole Scherzinger.
That comment should have been taken as more thought provoking than snarky.....
Do you really believe that you will be allowed free access to those back roads etc. by the locals? Don't expect it in my neck of the woods....ain't gonna happen.
When the SHTF, I hope it is ONLY your sensitivities that are hurt. Depending on the ability to move freely is a loser.
We’re rural. Our neighbors are farmers. We know them well enough. We’re on the same page. We’ll be bugging in. I’d hate to live in a city, even suburbs, getting out will be a pita. We have a plan for our kids to head here. We can squeeze in 14 if need be. Our kids are all prepping.
We have an old fashion cellar for tornadoes. In a pinch, we could retro fit it for nuclear fallout. Have you seen the series “Jericho”? It’s pretty good. It’s on netflix.
agree with you. i aint running. too old. but prepared? oh yes.
If you’d have read my posts you’d know where I stand.
Takin’ my debit card and goin’ to Mexico. Their economy is improving and it’s real easy to get across the border;)
I read the advice you gave in post #18 and called BS on it.
Still do.
better to stay put. too quick stuff will be shut down, accidents will happen, traffic jams you won’t get anywhere. sorry. that is what happens in the best of times. hunkr down, at least being at home you have a reason to fight your home and land and people you care about. you get over the first hump and you’ve got a real chance to make it.
I used to work in the interior of Mexico a lot. There is a lot of truth in your statement. Mexico isn’t just the border.
Small boat, three kids. Might be a fate worse than death...
