What's is your bug out bag?

What's in your bug out bag? My eldest calls them Good bags, Get out of Dodge. My second daughter (see home page) calls it her apocalypse crate, a rubber maid container filled with all the stuff she'll need, and has it in her car. It has all her old army stuff that couldn't be returned. For example, gas masks, mre's etc.

Ours has the normal stuff, blankets, food, flashlights, water, clothes, fire, ammo, etc. It might be a good thread to have input, suggestions, what's good, what's frivolous.

If you’re going to bug out, these are important questions. what’s your route, who are you meeting, how are you getting there. Is there gas? Are there going to be hordes of “survivalists” in the vicinity? Are they wannabe preppers? Or did they read a web site. I’m staying put. I’m not in the city, that’s the worst place to be.

Right. =) We got hit by Sandy and there was looting in the neighborhood. So I was down in the basement going to Def Con 2 and my wife hears click click. So ..she felt better

We have a well, hand pump to stick on our well, a generator, no solar panals (Looking into that investment - expensive), wood burning heat with tons of fuel, a year supply of food....

We’re good to go. There will be hardships, but we’ll be better off than most.

I assumed not many people would be bugging in, but I am as well. My home is close to a reservoir and unfortunately, I don’t have the resources for a bug-out location. I feel like leaving one’s home is one of the worst things to do in time of crisis unless in immediate danger.

I read on one blog about the idea of NOT packing cans, rations, etc,,just pack stuff for survival ‘bread’,,can be eaten raw,,or cooked on any heated surface,,looks like a tortilla of sort,,just has basic calories,,can use it to wrap up other foods. Flour, water and baking soda. A very basic way to get a few calories,,and light to carry (versus cans).

Datrex bars are great. High calorie count, Long shelf life and immune to heat.

I’m already out, full time out and up in the boonies/mountains but I do still carry a 48 hr. Emergency kit/bag/weapons/ammo in my rig though. Ya never know when ya might get stranded on some cold snowy dark night coming back up here after being down in the ‘big’ town.
