Emboldened Gay-Marriage Supporters Now Want More
By Cheryl Wetzstein November 22, 2012
Bolstered by their recent wins at the ballot box, gay-marriage activists say they are looking to build on their newfound momentum at the ballot box and in the courtroom.
Having broken a long losing string at the polls Nov. 6, gay marriage backers already have targeted several states for statewide voting drives, even as they await an imminent announcement from the Supreme Court that could reignite the battle over same-sex marriage in California.
Among the states being primed for marriage battles are New Jersey, one of just two states electing a governor and new state legislature in 2013, Delaware, Illinois and Rhode Island.
All four have civil-union laws, which gay activists would like to convert to legal marriage laws, especially given the momentum of voters approving such laws in Maryland, Maine and Washington state, and rejecting an anti-gay-marriage amendment in Minnesota this year. Before this years votes, gay-marriage opponents had defeated more than 30 straight statewide proposals to ease restrictions on same-sex marriage.
In New Jersey, for instance, were full-steam ahead in the drive to override GOPGov. Chris Christies February 2012 veto of a gay-marriage law, said Steven Goldstein, chairman of Garden State Equality.
However, an even greater prize may be on the horizon.
California clash
On Nov. 30, the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled to discuss whether to take up a lawsuit challenging whether Californias voter-passed Proposition 8 was properly struck down by federal courts. Prop. 8, which defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman, has been in effect and in court since it was passed by voters in a fiercely contested 2008 initiative drive.

Obama has had his way with you people ,so now buzz off
Good news for florists, cake decorators, jewelers, wedding planners, rental outfits and divorce lawyers. Most everyone else? Not so much. Hey, when is polygamy coming?
“Hey, when is polygamy coming?”
Lol!
Though realistically, what will first happen is decriminalization, which in a way has already happened in the sense that so long as someone doesn’t have a marriage license to any number of women, well, he can have sex and kids with pretty much as many women as he wishes, and have unofficial polygamy in the meantime. Hey, how about asking John Edwards or Hugh Hefner how the whole deal of polygamy without a marriage license works?
How about that guy on TV with what, 6 wives now? How much money does that guy make?
Well, let them have their marriage. We’ll just start calling a marriage between a man and a women a ‘biologicaly correct’ marriage and let them stew on that.
You need to at least give us a hint of what you mean, right now we don’t even know which flavor nut you are.
Yep. Many of the liberaltarians on this very site, too.

To regulate “marriage”? Wrong. The govt has no business in marriage.
Actually, government is generally expected to maintain civilization. The equation is simple enough: traditional marriage= civilization; homo marriage= barbarism. Therefore, government has to support the former and not the latter for civilization to continue. “If it feels good do it” is a formula for civilizational failure.
The guy must be seven-digits in his salary. Think about it, about the kind of cost for all the crafts for his wives, toys for his kids, and so on? Only a salary close to that amount sounds doable to me, unless the man is secretly funded by welfare bills for his wives claiming legal status as single mothers.
