The huge explosion that flattened homes and killed two people on Nov. 10 in Indianapolis is now being investigated as a homicide case, authorities said at a press conference Monday night.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry appealed to the public for information about a white van that was seen in the area, NBC affiliate WTHR reported. He said the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the case.

"While the fire investigation has been progressing, there has been a parallel investigation, not solely focusing on the cause of the explosion but focusing on individuals who may have been responsible once accidental causes were eliminated," Curry said. "That investigation has consisted of numerous interviews with various individuals as well as execution of a number of search."

The interviews and search warrants are why the investigation is considered an active criminal homicide investigation, Curry said...

Also,if you or I decide to evacuate our homes during an emergency, the government will decide when you may return to your home. I will stay on my property until I decide it is time to go.

the LA hurricane victims

They knew it was coming and didn't prepare or move inland. I have little compassion.

That’s cruel. So many lived in poverty and expected assistance. Many of the Sandy survivors simply ask for warmth.

So many lived in poverty and expected assistance

Why? It's not the governments fault or responsibility.

I don’t know which flame pattern you mean but I did see a black W pattern.

The way the furnace guy explained it...you create the leak and wait for something to trigger the explosion. Like the thermostat kicking on.

The felon boyfriend had just changed the thermostat.

There may have been explosives inside to help the destruction. Perhaps that is what they found that they aren’t talking about.

Or maybe it was just a bomb remotely detonated and they used some tricks to make investigators think it was a gas explosion.

I tend to think it happened in the basement , thus the earthquake registered on the seismograph 30 miles away.

He said he saw officers take golf clubs and an artillery box out of Bob Leonard's home and then take him away in handcuffs.

Golf clubs?

Very probable. They were most likely “just” looking for a fraudulent insurance claim.

Here is more about the meter that Citizens Gas found

http://www.fox59.com/news/wxin-citizens-energy-responds-to-reports-of-high-gas-usage-in-south-side-home-explosion-20121121,0,342861.column

“Several media outlets have inquired about reports suggesting the meter at the home which exploded had a high reading on November 10th. These reports are inaccurate. Citizens’ gas meters do not have the ability to monitor daily usage. Citizens did test the gas meter on October 26th and the reading was normal. Specific days, however, were not tested.

Citizens added that it analyzed the meter with help from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. Those readings have been turned over to investigators, and the meter is locked away as evidence in a Citizens storage facility, the company said.”

Police: Gas released into Indy home that exploded

6:54PM EST November 20. 2012 -

INDIANAPOLIS -- Law enforcement officials said Tuesday they suspect gas was intentionally released into a home before a spark caused it to explode, setting off a deadly chain of blasts in the city's Richmond Hill subdivision that killed two people.

Authorities said the fumes seeped from a manipulated pipe or stove and gathered within the house, until a small spark ignited it.

"The place was full of gas," a source close to the investigation told The Indianapolis Star, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

A second law enforcement source said that remote detonation is the leading theory now of how the blast occurred, but more investigation is needed before they can be sure.

“... remote detonation is the leading theory...”

The officials have been saying that for weeks. Officials searched the trailer park home of the subjects of interest and have made no arrests.

I missed your ping before and just caught it now. I don't believe the prosecutor has been to that many home gas explosion sites. It troubles me we he said the explosion is up and everything falls in. That is only when the explosion is contained to the foundation.

From the basement burn pattern I am making a guess that the meter regulator was damaged (if the system was higher than low pressure). I am not comforted that the city gas company has the meter safely locked away.
