Large amounts of chemicals commonly used to make bombs were found in the basement of a New Jersey doctor, along with assault rifles and a stun gun, prosecutors said today.
Dr. Roberto Rivera, 60, who was said to have been an active member in the Occupy Wall Street movement last year, was arrested following a Friday night raid on his Ridgewood, N.J., home

On that my FRiend, I certainly agree.
Generally they don't go after the leftists until AFTER something goes boom; unless your Bill Ayers/Bernadine Dohrn, then they don't go after you at all. Meanwhile Conservatives are derided as loons over a few rifles and a bag of lawn fertilizer.
I just get nervous when they talk about "precursor" chemicals and no further insight.
From just rummaging your kitchen, bathroom, and garage you can create some really nasty devices.
I have stuff since I'm a prepper. I also have 0000 steel wool I needed to buff some white marks made by moisture, off a fine tabletop. If I remember right, the clerk wrote my name down and what I bought. I didn't find out until later that was because I could have made a gun silencer from that.
They can have the other stuff, but I refuse to give up my cigarettes. They cost too much to give them to a cop (who would probably smoke them).
More of a HLS problem.
Don't throw everything out at once!
Dr. of War?
I hope he didn’t have a suspicious watch as well...
How much napalm can you make from a gas tank full of gas? The family truck holds 26 gal...
Depends on how many bars of soap or dozen eggs you have.
Long guns are easy in NJ once you qualify for a certificate to buy guns. Handguns require a background check and you need to go through your local police station. I used to live there and did it, got my pistol OK after 6 months. Carry permits are impossible for anyone but a bank guard or equivalent.
You forgot flour.
Then you wouldn’t mind surrendering any of the precursor chemicals/items in your house such as:
ground coffee, matches, speaker wires, cell phones, alarm clocks, kitchen timers, dried beans, dried rice, eggs, Vaseline, motor oil, urine (making urea nitrate), gasoline, nail polish remover/paint thinner (acetone), car batteries, bleach, Miracle Grow, bar soap, aspirin tablets, rust (great for incendiaries), aluminum foil/cans, string, cigarettes, clothespins, wine bottles, alcohol, peroxide, dried tea leaves, sugar, cocoa, Epsom salts, table salt, crayons, vinegar etc.....
If you are a prepper or extreme couponer....you could be made to look like a pretty dangerous nutcase. Especially if you happen to have evil “assault” rifles and a few cases of ammunition on hand.
falls under “etc”
bomb making chemicals? You mean like sugar, bleach, fertilizer and draino? Assault rifles? like a couple of rifles to shoot deer?
Or real evidence, like major explosives and bomb fuses and electronic stuff to set it off?
Doctor Dynamite
Those dried beans are especially explosive if one prepares them with LOTS of Garlic.
Be particularly cautious when working with fresh or dried chili peppers as well...always wear rubber gloves! :-)
In combination, the above ingredients are DEADLY!
Q: How many people does it take to keep a secret?
A: One.
Bump
Unless that guy had some material that is specifically illegal. (and I don’t know what that would be) here is his opportunity to sue the crap out of someone. While I don’t agree with the OWS crowd,I disagree with bogus laws being made up just to arrest someone on a lot more.
Maybe, but steel wool that fine might catch fire.
I understand the copper colored pot scrubbers are supposedly on the list of things which can be used to reconstruct a suppressor, and if you have a bunch of those around, and a (legal) suppressor, people have gotten in trouble for having the materials to 'construct' one. (I guess you have to have another permit to put new stuffing in the one you have).
The rules are a minefield, which is why I don't fool with Class III devices.
Bomb making chemicals in his home ??!!! That is a bit vague. I imagine almost everyone has bomb-making chemicals in their homes. Bleach, urine, that is chlorine and amonia right there. Fertilizer usually contains nitrogen. Guano has long been used for making salt peter.
There must be more to this story.
Sugar, flour, baking soda, Pine Sol, ammonia........It is a long list, all the ingredients that can be used to create an explosion found in the house, either in the pantry or under the sink.
Some of those explosions enough to take out a tank.
