Despite uncertainty surrounding the fiscal cliff and whether or not President Obama can make "compromise" a theme of his second term, one thing is for certain: the Affordable Care Act, widely referred to as "Obamacare" is going to take effect. The lion's share of the law is to be implemented on January 1, 2014. The major tenets that will impact Americans include the individual mandate and the pre-existing conditions clause that will not allow insurers to refuse coverage to anyone, even if they are in poor health.
.........................................................
And once the law actually goes into effect it's the pre-existing conditions provision that has the potential to do a lot of damage to the consumer, according to Funtleyder. He says it is "likely insurance companies will raise premiums on everybody, given the mandate, to deal with the number of pre-existing conditions that come into the fold." And that is one of the many key criticisms of the plan: little to no direct cost-control.

LOL.
Welcome to Amerika.
This is what the sheep voted for—now they will get sheared.
FU John Roberts.
For vets like me, VA benefits are means tested. If a vet has been over the earnings threshold and loses their job, they can petition the VA for immediate coverage..
Remember this was sold partly on the idea of not bankrupting people with medical bills. Under the ACA these people will see the threshold for deductibility rise to 10% and FSAs will be capped at $2500. The additional taxes paid by these lucky people will go to pay for the subsidies of others. Not protecting patients and not making care affordable.

>There has to be some “loophole” in the 2700 pages, written by morons, passed by morons and supported by morons...which will be a way out for everybody. It is the same with all bad, destructive legislation...there WILL be a way out
Everyone just has to become a Congressman and voila! Instant exemption ...

BOHICA!
My employer is already switching our healthcare plan to save $. I’m pretty sure he’s going to stop his GENEROUS contribution to our flex funds, too. (That covers OTC meds, which have been slashed to the bone & dental - which I still have and will quick get some minor work done in the coming year...) How much more will *I* be required to pay come January, 2014? I do not know. Nor will I until it’s gone from my paycheck. *SIGH*
I JUST got to a point where I was showing a slight SURPLUS each month. So GLAD Mother Government is there to catch me when that’s gone, too. *SPIT*
I’m REALLY getting dispirited, here. I’m a good person. I live a clean, sober, productive and simple life. And yet. And yet...
Man! Look at the OPPORTUNITY that you are outlining. Medical care will continue to be needed at a price that people are willing to pay. Some smart person is going to open a clinic and a transportation service to provide for those people who are willing to pay. Mexico? Canada? Costa Rica? I don't know where, but someone is going to hear the clarion call.
I'll be surprised to find that someone hasn't already put this into place.
Amen. You’ve identified it exactly.

Probably so, BUT how many people do you think thought they (or someone) could get rich by opening “Smokers Only” bars, airlines, taxi service, hotels etc with anyone able to use, the only stipulation being it was OK to smoke.
The ‘powers that be’ simply refused to ‘give’ you permission to do.
.
My wife got Lasik surgery done in Singapore for less than the co-pay here. But, the socialist “democracies” always close the the borders to prevent their citizens from escaping utopia.
