Veterans Twice as Likely to Cheat on Their Spouses as Non-Veterans

Men and women who have served in the military have considerably higher rates of marital infidelity and divorce than the population at large, according to a 2011 study.

"Veteran Status, Marital Infidelity, and Divorce," a paper presented at last year's American Sociological Association Meeting, found that:

32 percent of veterans who were ever married reported that they'd had extra-marital sex, compared with 16.8 percent of ever-married non-veterans; 38.5 percent of ever-married veterans had gotten divorced, compared with 28.9 percent of ever-married non-veterans; For both veterans and non-veterans, sexual infidelity is likely to lead to divorce. People who reported that they'd cheated on their spouses were more than 2.3 times more likely to have gotten divorced than those who hadn't been unfaithful.

Well, maybe it’s because they’re not home as often as other married men and must do what they can to find fulfillment.

In order to make their Man-child look good the media must tear down the most respected institution in this country.

On Veteran's days of all day...F them

Not surprising as the job requires you to be away from your spouse for months at a time.

Absence does not make the heart grow fonder and it makes another portion of your anatomy very lonely.

The Obama administration is twice as likely to cover up what went on at Benghazi as most people want to believe.

Military members and Veterans are held in the top three of highly regarded professions, while journalists, like this particular creature, are held in the bottom three, along with politicians, like the ones willing to use this stupid Petreaus thing to cover up what far-reaching horrible thing happened in and around Benghazi.

Journalists are five times more likely to ditch Veterans on Veterans Day as their drug addled readers and viewers, who vote and who vote in politicians who ditch the military) will ever believe.

Happy Veterans Day.

Don’t believe one word of what te media says about Vets and the military. not one word, from these ingrates whose freedom of the press they owe to every one of those who serve.

Good reason to NOT have women side-by-side with men in the military. No matter who you are, if you are away from home for long periods of time there is the temptation to “love the one you’re with”.

Probably has a lot to do with 1SG's Friday afternoon safety briefing.

Oh, great. When Clinton lied to a Federal Judge, all of a sudden, lying was GOOD, then oral sex wasnl't sex because Bill Clinton claimed it wasn't so 6th graders were performing oral sex in their classrooms, bathrooms, school buses ......because it was OK, the NY Times said so!

Now, veterans cheat on their spouses, why, because Gen. Petraus did so but resigned

And if they did some further research they would find that the spouse of the non-military is more likely to cheat with a former military.

I’d like to see the statistics for other professions where the spouses are apart for years at a time. I bet the military are more disciplined than any other line of work would be in that circumstance, especially when you take into account the demographics of the military.

Democrats 20 times more likely to cheat at election polls.

Will that be the next journalistic piece from The Atlantic?

A lot of folks refer to a tour in the ROK as a "TDY" assignment: Temporarily Divorced for a Year

No doubt the study consisted of gay men and women. What’s next on the “smear American morals” campaign....

Oh, dear. The American Sociological Association looks askance on the marital practices of service-members, and it's quoted in The Atlantic, of all places. What a shock.

Those of us who have served know perfectly well the incredible strains duty places on family life. It goes with the territory. There's a reason "Navy Wife" or "Army Brat" have entered the vernacular.

I also note the base data are two decades old. It would be interesting to learn what, if any, recommendations the sociologists have to address the issue or if they even consider it worth addressing. That, alas, appears to be absent from the story. Curious.
