rally was scheduled on Long Island Saturday for fed-up utility customers to voice their frustration about still being without power nearly two weeks after superstorm Sandy struck, CBS Station WCBS reports.
Many residents will spend their 13th day in the dark and cold Saturday, and there seemed to be no light at the end of the tunnel

International humanitarian-aid group Doctors Without Borders, best known for conducting emergency health care interventions in war-torn countries, set up a makeshift clinic for Hurricane Sandy victims in one of New Yorks worst-hit communities to fill in the gaps in the governments response. Matthew Power joined volunteer physicians for a day in the field during the groups first operation on U.S. soil . . .
They had 2 or 3 recovered a couple of days ago .... not sure if that is still going on, but the guy on the panel said it at least twice.
Problem on the north shore is the amount of trees down and a lot of the power lines run through the backyards so they are Harding to repair.
I live on the south shore and it did get hit really hard, I still have family members living with me from the beach.
Thanks! One of my kids is going to be doing that when she finishes school. She’s excited to be a part of that group (if they accept her)
Word is Obama will be in Rockaway next Thursday.
The POSOTUS is golfing today ?
The Town of Hempstead contains 22 villages and 37 hamlets. Oceanside is protected by the barrier beaches: Lido Beach, Long Beach and Atlantic Beach which directly face the ocean ... like all of Rockaway ... which received the brunt of the storm.
In you post # 9 you stated, "We are one of the last bastions of Republicans on Long Island". Are you implying that the residents of Roosevelt, Uniondale, East Garden City, Freeport, Baldwin, Hempstead Village, etc voted Republician . . . or just the white enclaves?
You also stated, "Have some pity for the people in the Town of Hempstead, who are the hardest hit." I assume you still have a home ... ??? I have family in Rockaway who don't have homes anymore. I also have family in the 'Town of Hempstead' who have no power but still have houses.
BTW, Nassau County voted overwhelmingly for Obama.
So take your civics lesson and shove it where the sun don't shine.
Nice, isn’t it? He works so hard fixing Sandy and needs a break./s
I hope they give him a piece of their mind.
A picture of Barry golfing on this fine Saturday while they were still freezing, homeless, powerless, without food, etc. should be posted on telephone poles for all to see.
But I guess you just had to get a nasty snide comment in because you are a nasty, snide person.
I didn't say I lived in Oceanside. Reading comprehension problems? Perhaps you can get one of you relative to explain the governmental differences between the Town of Hempstead, the Town of North Hempstead and the Town of Oysterbay. Nassau County is divided into 3 TOWNS

Florida went for Obama. So according to your pretzel when the next disaster hits Florida I should wish ill on all.
You are one of the nastiest Freepers I've ever had the misfortune to come across in all my years here. There's always one rotten apple that has to spoil it for the rest.
1985 ... was Gloria really that long ago? I remember it well. I evacuated to my in-laws for that one. My daughter was sick that day but otherwise, except for my boat which took a hit, we were fine and home by the end of the day.
One of the things we here have learned after years of these things is to be prepared as much as you can and don't depend on the government for much and when they tell you to evacuate - get out asap.
You were wrong that Hempstead took the worse hit ... the barrier islands on the south shore did. No one who resides on those beaches (or any other LI town) would describe themselves as living in Hempstead. And when I send out Christmas cards this year they will be addressed to East Meadow, Atlantic Beach, Rockville Centre, Wantagh, and Inwood ... not to Hempstead.
When I corrected you, you shouted back at me in CAPITAL LETTERS, and with a holier than thou attitude decided to give me an unnecessary and unneeded civics lesson.
After reading all the comments on this thread, with the unbridled hatred and lack of empathy towards the victims of Sandy, you’ve decided that I’m the nastiest Freeper ever??? Well, that’s your problem, not mine.
BTW, did you know that, between the flooding and the fires, 10% of FDNY’s firefighters lost their homes on the Rockaway peninsula. Y’all were cheering these same firemen on 9/11 and now your cheering the destruction of their homes. And I’m the nasty one ... lol.
Send them rifles and ammo.
for protection.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 191.3 square miles (495.5 km²). 120.0 square miles (310.7 km²) of it is land and 71.4 square miles (184.8 km²) of it (37.30%) is water. The west town line is the border of Queens County, New York, in New York City. Its northern border is along the main line of the Long Island Rail Road and along Old Country Road in Garden City heading east towards the Wantagh Parkway. Its eastern border runs parallel (and several hundred feet west of) Route 107. To the south is the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of Atlantic Beach, Lido, Pt. Lookout, and Jones Beach. The town is located on Long Island. The most popular beach on the east coast of the United States, Jones Beach is located in Hempstead. The beach is a popular destination for Long Islanders and residents of New York City. The beach itself receives about six million visitors a yea
Because that is not a legitimate role of government.
It’s interesting that you mention squirrel hunting in Central Park because just a few weeks ago I read a story about a homeless guy who was arrested for hunting (and eating) squirrels in Prospect Park (Brooklyn).
Let me see if I can find the story. Ah! Here it is! Looks like it was more than one guy:

Regards,
Mine runs on propane and I only have about 1,000 lbs. of that (translation - that is enough to heat my house, my water, cook my food and power a big generator until about May of next year)
Thanks for the tip on the diesel generator.
I was puzzling over storing fuel, when your post made me say to myself “duh, you’ve got a 500 gallons worth of storage capacity”.
Thanks again.
