Thanks for the tip on the diesel generator.
I was puzzling over storing fuel, when your post made me say to myself “duh, you’ve got a 500 gallons worth of storage capacity”.

Diesels are more expensive and are louder but they last longer - just like diesel vehicles.
500 gal tank? You’re golden.
(have any vehicles that run on diesel? that’s a plus too in hindsight of what happened during Sandy at the gas stations)
People forget home heating oil is diesel.... If you heat with oil you have a fuel station at your house for emergencies of the generator and vehicle kind....
(just keep it full)

One can also get a
tri-fuel generator that runs on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. My wife's friend has a big natural gas emergency generator on her home. Natural gas, coming from underground pipes, is less likely to be knocked out by falling trees.
