One can also get a tri-fuel generator that runs on gasoline, propane, or natural gas. My wife's friend has a big natural gas emergency generator on her home. Natural gas, coming from underground pipes, is less likely to be knocked out by falling trees.

Thanks for the tip. I have an old house that never hooked up to street gas when it became available (I hate my electric stove - can’t tip the omelette pan just so :(

I’ve been tempted to have a line run in, but am waiting for my old oil burning furnace to conk out and make one big investment for the heat plant, stove, fireplace, etc.
