Spread the Wealth? I Say Spread the Pain.
Me

Posted on 11/08/2012 2:43:14 PM PST by FlipWilson

Here we sit on the good ship USA sailing merily along. We have tried repeatedly to tell passengers that there is an ice berg dead ahead, a fiscal cliff, Greece, etc. Despite our warnings they have not and will not listen to us. We have tried to tell the people about the pain being caused to them. Again, they will not and have not listened. Instead, they voted to not only stay on the ship but to stay on course. Understanding how (some) of the electorate got there is important.

In my opinion some of it starts with the nature of the American People, a nature that is inwardly focused on the here and now. Sure, there may be an ice-berg ahead, but to many it is AHEAD and not actually HERE. So they say to us, "shut up and leave us alone." One has only to look at our history to understand why the people are content to party on while the ship approaches disaster. We are a country that sat fat dumb and happy about terrorism on September 10, 2001. Even before that we sat fat dumb and happy about the threats to our nation on December 6, 1941. Wash, rinse, repeat. Worse still is that we only temproarily learn from our mistakes and are quick to forget. Bottom line, until disaster actually strikes we are a nation content to swin in denial and, even, re-board another ship heading from the same ice berg.

Second, it is a bit hard to get the passenger's attention as to the danger when they are all drunk, so to speak. Why, for example, would they listen to Mr. Romney talk about unemployment -the central theme of his campaign- when most are getting a nice old check for umpteen months. The patient will care little about pain if he or she is anesthetized. Of course and lest we forget, those benefits were extended by a Republican House interested in compromise -sob one for me Mr. Boehner. Even more amazing is that the republican leadership's motivation was driven by not wanting the media to portray it as mean or evil. News flash to Mr. Boehner, the corrupt media will never portray you as anything other than evil.

In light of this, I have a new approach/motto. While democrats seek to "spread the wealth" Republicans need to seek to “Spread the Pain.” It is time to get out of the way. If Obama wants to raise taxes, then lets help him on the condition that he raise them on EVERYONE. If Obama’s policies are going to cause unemployment, then let the damn unemployed feel the sting of not having a job, no more bennies. No more pain killers for those who stay at home on election day or who vote out of "historical concerns" or a promise of amnesty.

Furthermore, no more charity or charity work. I know it sounds horrible but if government is so damn good at solving all our problems, then I intend to get out of the way and let all those who need the help go home to their deity for it. I am done donating and volunteering for these people who go out and vote for a government that can’t take care of them, just so they can come back to me and ask for help. You want government, you got it!!! Sometimes, tough love is the Christian thing to do.

Time to stop shouting “ice berg ahead!!!!” to the drunk passeners on the SS Hope N Change. No sir, full steam ahead and let us be done with it already. The sooner the ship hits the bottom, the sooner we can scoop up the survivors and put them on a new and better ship.

I know some will attribute my proposed approach to a "winning by losing" strategy. Believe me, it is not intended that way. Instead, it is born out of a sense of impatience and urgency. Enough of the slow spiral. Let us just get on with it so we can pick up the pieces and rebuild.

I agree with you, but it is not going to happen.

Really, with a guy like Boehner it could well happen. Of course, Boehner will be doing it for other reasons but in my mind as long as he serves my purpose he is the right tool for the job (and I do mean tool).

Cloward/Piven the government. Burden it with it’s own weight until it collapses.

Christmas gift need to stop. Think of how much you spend each year on family, friends and relatives on gifts that, for the most part, are not needed....

Sure, give to the small kids in the family, but everyone else? put them on notice now... “I will not be exchanging gifts this year - please don’t buy anything for me either”

Spend the time saved on cooking great meals for the holidays and baking - old school....Decorate as usual(with what you already have on hand) - make something to give, etc. but stop your seasonal retail boost to the economy.

I heard this sort of stuff when we lost to Clinton, twice, and now here it is again that we've lost to Obama, twice.

The way I see it, we've got to stop looking for the road to "Pleasantville", and start to fight. Fight dirty, like the dems fight.

They obviously see their beliefs and way of life worth fighting for, and fighting dirty for...but us? Well, we want to "reach across the aisle" and swap spit with the dems and give the media a hand job so they will "like us". Whoop-de-doo.

Everyone says that Romney is a "nice guy"...maybe therein lies the problem. We listen to the GOPe elites and they try to tell us who can get elected...and they're wrong most every time.

The GOPe running from true Conservatism, with a sneer like they passed the city dump or an open septic tank while driving near the latest trailer park.

I believe the true "middle class" in America, are the true conservatives...not the GOP. The GOP is just a truck (party)on which the Conservatives hitched a ride because they don't yet have our own truck (party).

But to create such a party, it would split the NON-democrat vote, and we'd never win again.

The Tea Party movement totally flummoxed the media and the dems because it HAD NO DEFINEABLE LEADER. The opposition had no target on which to focus, and they were scared. But, it wasn't the MSM or the dems that neutered the TPM, it was the GOPe.

The GOPe sees the TPM and hard-core conservatives like the crazy rich uncle no one wants to acknowledge belongs to the family. They want the money, they want the votes, but that's when they hang the "out to lunch" sign with the conservatives and their values come calling.

The next four years "war" should not waste "ammunition" on the dems, but go after the GOPe. The Tea Party should rise up from the ashes and go back on their rampage like 2010. It scared the hell out of all of them. They just quit too soon.

It's time to starve the beasts, plural...both the socialist government, and the GOPe chicken hearted. Re-register your party affiliation, stop giving your money (what remains after the Obamacare tax) to the GOPe and let's give it to the Tea Party.

Play their game, start the Tea Party Union, made up of true conservatives will will withold their votes for the GOP unless the planks of conservatism are adhered to, and courage is shown to back it up.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just tired of the arm-chair quarterbacking on why we lost...we lost because we sent "Captain GOPe" - chicken of the sea - out to speak for an America that is tired of all the crap, and they moderated themselves, and us, into losing the election.

No Christmas except for the kids has been the rule around here for many years. We do have a huge open house on Christmas Eve for friends and family. Drinks, tamales, rice and beans. I actually like it so much better than when we all exchanged gifts. The funny thing is I expected some push back. Didnt get it. Everyone loves it and our house is full of friends, family, and laughter on Christmas Eve.

Agree with you, FRANKR and the writer of this column. We need the ignorant and the dumb and the arrogant liberals (who happen to be richer than most of us working folk), to feel the pain, because pain is often the only thing than can wake up a numb mind.

My body is full of pain, so I listen to it. If I didn’t, I’d be as delusional and stupid as most Democrats (except for those who can afford to buy serious painkillers).

I feel for the less fortunate (those who suffer through no fault of their own), and I’ll try to help them with my reduced income (Jan. 1, 40% taxes on Dividends in my retirement portfolio).

Higher insurance rates are killing me as sure as the cardiac arrest did 3 years ago. Pretty soon the choice will be between having insurance or replacing my 15 year old car with 206,000 miles on it.

Oh, my company just stopped contributing to our 401K Plan. That was one important part of my retirement planning. This is going to hurt too.

I’ve got more than my share of pain. Hey, libs, have I got a gift for you.

Imagine conservatives not allowing their federal tax deduction to be taken from their paycheck for a month...........it would crush the government and maybe then they would realize red states really do exist.

Count me in too. I learned a long time ago that you can’t make a horse drink the water if he doesnt want to. We’ve tried to reason with idiots with block walls for heads about the out-of-control spending and the upcoming financial cliff but they just ignore us. Now that the dems run 2/3 of govt., they will OWN the financial collapse that is inevitable. Let it burn.

Fine, I will not debate that the GOP-e is clueless. My point was that they acted as useful idiots to allow Obama to insulate himself from the consequences of his policies. Nobody is feeling the pain from those policies so why should they care? It is time to stop telling the voters about the pain and let them experience it. We stand in the way of Obama inflicting it and for what? So they can turn on us. No thanks.

And one other note, until the media is dealt with harshly we will be losers forever. The media needs to be exposed. I want to know everything about them, where they eat, who they are boinking, where their kids go to school and if they are in trouble. You know, I want to know everything about the media that they want to know about our candidates and our voters.

Not to worry, the media will paint us as being at fault no matter what. That is what alludes the Crying Speaker. No matter what he does, he is screwed. Might as well throw care to the wind and take a bold new tack. Spread the Pain to the fence sitters. The ignorant and envious are already gone.

My wife and I just this morning were discussing changing our withholding to zero and putting it into our savings account every pay period and paying what we owe on April 15th. We see no reason to continue giving the government interest-free loans every other week throughout the year.

I agree with you. Things are different as of 6 Nov.

We are going to have a talk with our adult children: its going to be a Going Galt Christmas. Not only do we want to hoard our $$$ now, we also don't want to contribute any sales tax.

I agree about the charity. Give to your church, help out your family and neighbors, but don’t give a dime to any other charity. Tell them you gave at the office.
