I called Comcast last night and cancelled my cable TV. When the young lady on the phone asked me why I was cancelling it I explained that we just had a change in our financial situation. I told her that my wife and I both work full time and because we have good paying jobs we are now going to have have to pay higher taxes as we are for some reason considered the enemy. I went on to explain that we have fixed expenses such as a mortgage and car payments that we cannot cut. With 4 kids who are rapidly approaching their college years we do not have disposal income. This was just the start as I have to begin preparing now for the reality of the next 4 years.
What I didn't tell the young lady was that there is an added benefit of this change as I will no nonger be sending my hard earned money to to the owner of the hate filled network MSNBC. Any company that allows the lies and distortions to flow night after night from their hosts needs to hear from their customers. The news coverage from NBC over the last few months was incrediably biased with the hosts continually singing the praises of the President while ignoring the deteriorating economy, the scandal in Libya and Obama's Katrina. Nothing new but this time in my own small way I will adjust for our unfortunate economic reality and at the same time hopefuly do my part to send a message to Comcast that a significant portion of this country does not agree with the hate and lies that constantly flow from the NBC properties.
Nice! I’m preparing to tell my family members (on Mr. Littlespotblog’s side, all libs from CA) that Christmas will be very frugal this year. Thanks to our increase in taxes next year, along with the increased amount of $$ we have to pay for food and gas, they can expect simple homemade gifts and photographs of our daughter. The days of buying consumer items are long gone.
We’re all poor now!
Had a Google AdWords account for my business.
DELETED and CANCELLED.
I cancelled DISH about six months ago, bought a rabbit ears antenna for $15.00 and discovered I receive 23 channels with perfect picture. I was paying $71.00 per month for a system that I barely used and which spent most of the time in “Acquiring Signal” mode when I did use it.
And watching Fox is necessary because....why?
My employer is giving away a Ford F-150 in a national sweepstakes. I was asked to research vehicle options and chose Ford strictly because they are not government owned. (not the reason I gave my company but that was my true reason) I went and ordered the truck the other day. The GM of the dealer is a tea party type guy-I did tell him.
I called the tree service company yesterday & told them because Obama won I no longer could afford to have the two trees cut. They called back laughing (left message on answering machine) that they understood. Since they thought it was so funny I won’t be using them next time I decide to have the trees taken down.
My wife and I cut the tie to cable/satellite tv two months ago. We stream Netfliks/Huluplus and watch movies we’ve chosen and listen to music we’ve chosen through Apple TV.
I bought a powered antennae to pick up local digital/analog tv stations (which we probably won’t be watching for the next four years because we might accidentlly see national news with their god Obama).
We get any news we want over the internet at websites like this, as well as Drudge, Foxnews.com, etc.
We really haven’t missed satellite tv at all. We are saving about 70 dollars a month. I highly recommend one of the streaming products. We are heavy into itunes so Apple TV made sense for us, but I understand Roku is good as well as others. You definitely need a good wireless router. I recommend Apples Airport Extreme. Very few dropouts on streaming. I’m sure there are other good ones out there as well.
Take the plunge, you won’t regret it.
Exactly and am with you 100%....
If enough of us do this, business will suffer (read JC Penney) and the message will be heard...
Hey, no money, no business, no employment...trickle down DOES work!
People have GOT to learn to turn off the cable news channels and TV stations. That is the only way to hurt them. Low ratings. If people continue to watch, then they will not change. Everyone has simply got to stop watching the liars.
While we like Netflix too because of classic film availability, I hate to break it to you but the head of Netflix is a huge lib in Los Gatos, CA.
I deleted all the liberals on my facebook page (including my brother) so I don’t have to put up with them thinking they won. In the long run we will find our own “revenge” & it won’t be pretty. I see there has been & will be a lot of layoffs starting all over the country. Some employees were warned ahead of time that if Obama won some would lose their jobs. Actions always have reactions.
The best service is an antenna.
It’s amazing how many people have forgotten (or never knew) about free over-the-air TV. We get 50 channels in our area—all free; all HDTV (better quality HDTV than cable provides).
Go to zap2it.com and look up the broadcast channels in your area. You’ll be really surprised what’s out there for free.
We dumped cable 3 years ago. Never looked back.
Hooked a computer to the TV antenna and use it as a DVR to record shows.
Hulu, Crackle, and channel websites (like tbs.com) provide other access to TV.
There is really a wealth of TV content out there that is free, if you know where to look for it.
I already told my kids the other day not to expect buckets of stuff under the tree this year, although we could. I am not participating in the Obama economy as much as is possible. They completely understood.
Can you believe this—I am 67 years old and I have NEVER had or paid for cable since it came into existence.
And I can truthfully say I have missed nothing.
Without cable there is very close to nothing but trash to watch, so I don’t watch it.
For 8 years when Clinon was in office, I didn’t even watch the local news. Even now I have rarely watched the local news for the past 4 years because they keep playing this disturbing image that has nothing to do with local news. LOL
I’ve been doing the math today.
We are looking at an extra $10K in fed taxes alone starting January 1st till the end of the year.
Who knows what it will be beyond that.
I have no idea where it will come from.
It isn’t going to take long for many of us to be considered “tax delinquent”
You can kill the TV service part of your bundle and save significant money that way. Comcast doesn’t require TV to get internet service.
And with internet service you can do NetFlix or Hulu or whatever for those movies.
Don't want to support the riff raff, if I can help it
Don't miss tv at all, 3 years and counting. I feel... kinda....FREE!!!!!!!
When I was ready to ditch cable, I started with Netflix and Hulu and got a digital TV antenna and it’s pretty sweet. Once you buy the TV antenna whatever channels you get in your local area are free (I’d actually forgotten there was still such a thing) and with Netflix & Hulu at $8/each it’s a beautiful $16 solution.
