Puerto Rico wants to become the 51st state of the US
BBC News ^ | The Day After | 7 November 2012

Voters in Puerto Rico have supported a non-binding referendum to become a full US state.

The measure will require approval from the US Congress, but President Barack Obama has said he will respect the vote.

The island is currently a US territory, which uses the dollar and whose citizens travel on US passports.

But it does not return senators to the US Congress and is represented in Washington by a non-voting delegate.

Almost 80% of the island's electorate took part in the referendum, the fourth in the past 45 years.

With almost all the votes counted, almost 54% voted to change the island's relationship with the US.

And in reply to a second question on what future they favoured, nearly two-thirds wanted full statehood.

If Congress grants its approval, Puerto Ricans would have the right to vote in all US elections, but would also have to pay federal taxes, something at present they are excused from.

I concor 100% as usual. Well said, proper and personal first hand take on the situation I see here in Texas as well.... Any person , regardless of race, that takes the bribes of SSI and or disability payments, reparations, HUD housing, EBT cards, free phones etc for their votes is a cancer on liberty and the election process.

Especially when they can work, there are jobs yet they choose to cruise versus lose the ability to stay lazy and a slave to polidiots that will only give them someone else’s hard earned funds. Life will always be hard for these idiots. They will always have to ask verses earn permissions and allowances as real working Americans enjoy.

Working people own and earn. Sell outs are owned and earn nothing IMO .

Stay safe Wardaddy...

your arguments against a Spanish colonial background would then hold true for Texas, Cal, New Mexico, Florida etc. etc.

“Vermont.. province of Canada” — you may have missed the election trends in Canada. the Canucks voted for a conservative party and moved hard right. Now they have lower corporate taxes than we have...

Let’s not forget how they kicked the republican poll watchers out of Ohio on election day. That’s probably when they were doing their tricks.

Anybody who will post a forged document on the WH website will do ANYTHING.

Once a fraud - always a fraud.

Obama needs to go

I’m soooooo happy to learn that “white” people are the only ones that are constitution loving.....

Never knew that when I swore in for military service....

Never knew that when I served on the Business conference for Newt Gingrich over 20 years ago.

Never knew that when I voted for conservative values for the past 35 years....

Maybe I should just leave America and go back to Cuba.....

Gee, and all this time I thought it was the white union workers in the auto industry, NE white liberals and young white women that gave Obummer his margin of victory....

Looks like I’ve been wrong....

I'm not so sure about that; voting Hispanics went 71 percent for Obozo.

Its much more of a split group, once you remove the Mexican Americans, many of whom probably dont effectively pay any income tax. I'm not saying the PR's will become Rush listeners, but it would tend that way in my opionion. Either way, we have to think of some way of getting more of these voters back on our side, we have to find a way of removing the xenophobic tinge that is on our brand, or we never win again. Just a demographic fact.

agreed, there are so many things which do not add up and no one is investigating.
I looked at the counties here and republicans voted more, Romney won more counties than MCCAIN and they said poll after poll with oversampling of Dems that Romney was for FL.

I have never heard ever in hiosotry how the military vote got split evenly in one state, a state which obama needed and a swing state.
I served and still know others serving and on combat units mostly the homosexuality is not accepted nor is cross dressing.
Then there was Libya and how obama lied and ignored and denied.
Something is not right up and down this country with federal positions, the numbers do not add up.

Tampa, obama came and got under 5000 people and yet we are to think that he won Tampa!!!

The Chicago machine had 4 years , they had Holder and that is why Holder never left after all his screw ups and the DOJ which was overhauled with ACLU type lawyers.

I ma sick and tired of our side not investigating, not asking but instead they give up and when many of us ask questions, see numbers which do not make sense then we're then ignored or labeled as a whack job.
Well I;’d be a whack hob and find the truth than someone who is a coward and goes with the flow and can;t stand up for this country

That’s a county by county map, I think. Try a map using congressional districts and the divide is clearer.

The majority of Hispanics in this country are native born. My family has been in New Mexico since 1598. This vitriol against people with Spanish surnames is killing the Republican party.

With all due respect I believe you have it backwards.

It is (generally) Hispanics who act, and at times threaten, and vote like one demographic whether they are native born/citizens or not.

The question I pose to you...are Hispanics going to move America to a higher level of greatness, or break her by changing her into a welfare state?

do you have a link to that map please.
I remember when there was s ite which had the same map and had a break down of all the counties but I forgot the name of the site

agreed, this country is our country but instead we let 4 years of planning of voter fraud, number not adding up, throwing out republican observers, Holder and a Chicago machine which only knows corruption.

Imagine how Mia Love feels out in UT where she was a shoe in, a rising star in the GOP and a massive threat to the Dems.
Now she lost all of a sudden against what people saw, against the polls, against how popular she was, against how the crowds were for her.

The left took her out before she could get a foot hold and pose that threat to them.

The elft could never have a conservative black woman taking them on .

One more thing. What has the Republican party ever done to Hispanics? Try to enforce our laws? Not just roll over and make Spanish the national language?

Please make a list for me. What has so ruined the image of the Republican party in Hispanics eyes?
