Many New Yorkers likely think Craig Fugate, who runs the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is doing a “heckuva job.” But he may have some explaining to do after FEMA disaster centers in several sections of New York City suddenly closed up shop Wednesday.

Another storm — a dreaded nor’easter — is on its way, and FEMA’s response was to shutter the relief centers that have been some Hurricane Sandy victims’ sole source of food, water and other supplies. The Red Cross has also cut back on relief services as New York City braces for the next wintry wallop.

Salon reported that Fugate told reporters on a Wednesday conference call that some post-Sandy FEMA facilities and services “had to be secured or postponed during the [current] storm. … We are going to resume when weather permits.”

DNAinfo.com New York visited several FEMA disaster centers and found “Closed due to weather” signs.

A FEMA facility on Coney Island was among those affected.

“The storm is coming. We don’t know how hard it’s going to hit us,” Jenny Cartagena told DNAInfo outside that FEMA site. “I need some help now.”

Non-FEMA volunteers handing out supplies on Staten Island said FEMA buses disappeared Wednesday, and were no longer available as places for New Yorkers with no electricity to get warm.

“FEMA packed up and left,” volunteer Louis Giraldi told the website.

“We don’t know where they are, so there’s nothing here but us.”

How much danger was FEMA in at their location? I can understand if it were a tornado/tsunami/hurricane, but a nor’easter? Try living in Cleveland in January.

To those of you who are patriots I feel for you and wish you the best outcome. I hope your families are safe.

To those of you who are supporters of Obama and the MARXIST machine...

I hope your electricity is out for days on end. I hope you can't get fuel for days on end. I could care less if you freeze to death in the dark.

Call me what you want, but these people are the reason this country is in the mess it is.

This is the future of healthcare in America. Oh my! We can’t change; just got to get around it.

So sorry your Aunt is involved in all this. Can’t she escape until the area is ready for rennovations?

Shouldn’t they shut down the 911 call centers, to keep the lines open for other uses?

The Laurel and Hardy team will take care of them. If this hurricane had to happen, why couldn’t it have been sooner in the month, rather than so close to election? Then, Americans maybe, just maybe, would have been able to call this obama’s Katrina.

The MSM, as usual, was slobbering all over the marxist as he pretended to be presidential. They make me sick as do most of those on Fox right now.

Yes, I’m in a rather bitter mood. These maggots are destroying my country, and I don’t like them much.

50 mph winds, 5" of wet snow, more trees coming down, transformers popping, more power outages and long gas lines STILL.

And FEMA is closed because of the weather.

fuFEMA.

LOL. Actually, both Robert and John loved McCarthy. Robert even tried to get a job from him. This was in a universe long ago when Democrats viewed communism as a threat. Now, of course, Obama was endorsed by the communist party.

Seeing that on this of all days, it seems like something out of a very dusty history book.

Try living in Cleveland in January.

Or last week. While the east coast was getting hit hard, the western lake shore suburbs of Cleveland also had 75+ mi/h winds and 7 inches of rain from the west side of Sandy.

The last people got their lights (lost on the 29th/30th) back on November 5th. Utility trucks had to be called in from Missouri since the locals were sent to NY. Huge trees uprooted or with snapped trunks and lots of good size evergreens knocked over onto houses and wires. My daughter's internet (AT&T, blah!) is still out due to a tree.

Most people outside of the area didn't hear about it. Here's a map from Accuweather showing the tiny little dark area in N. Ohio right up against the lake, about 1/3 of the way in from the east.

Speaking of January, if you want to read a fun Cleveland blizzard story, check out the storm of January 25-27th, 1978. Lowest non-tropical mainland pressure ever recorded up to that time (28.28 inches) in the US. Wind gusts of 111 mi/h on Lake Erie.

Lot of great stories from those 3-4 days. Not a lot of snow, maybe 10-15 inches, but it's almost impossible to measure it under those conditions. Our front lawn was bare grass due to the wind, but other parts of the yard were buried. The drifts were 25 feet in places and hard as rock.

I well remember that blizzard.
I do feel sorry for the folks on the east coast. On June 29, 2012, we had a derecho (Champaign County) which caused Obama to declare our area a disaster. Just two weeks ago they started the repairs to our commercial building. Hope we’re in it before it snows (5-6 weeks)

LOL! Our government is so pathetic. Left wingers are a bunch of pansies and it is truly terrifying to imagine the response in a real emergency. You get what you sew.
