A house divided against itself cannot stand.
Abe Lincoln used those words in 1858 to describe a country that was careening toward civil war. Now were a house divided again and another civil war is coming, with the 2012 election as its Gettysburg.
Call it Americas coming civil war between the Makers and the Takers.
On one side are those who create wealth, Americas private sectorthe very ones targeted by President Obamas tax hikes announced Monday.
On the other are the public employee unions; left-leaning intelligentsia who see the growth of government as index of progress; and the millions of Americans now dependent on government through a growing network of government transfer payments, from Medicaid and Social Security to college loans and corporate bailouts and handouts (think GM and Solyndra).
Over the past century Americas private sector has been the source of productivity, innovation, creativity, and growthand gave us the iPhone and iPad. The public sector has been the engine of entitlement, stagnation, and decline -- and gave us Detroit and the South Bronx.
The private sector built the strongest economy in the world. It armed the free world in World War Two, and then in the three decades after the war turned America into the most prosperous society history had ever seen. It revived America in the Reagan and Clinton years, and thanks to the Bush tax cuts brought this country back from economic collapse after 9/11.
In those same years a growing public sector, by contrast, turned Europe into a cesspool of debt, stalled economies, and chronic social dysfunction thats set the streets of Athens -- and perhaps other European capitals--on fire.
Thats where were headed, too, more rapidly than we like to think.

You’ll notice the corporate offices which house many liberals are the blue counties in Colorado while the food production in Colorado are the red counties. I live a solid red county; good beef here, too!
People better start thinking about where there food will come from if the status quo is demolished.
Many have, the preppers. Many have not, the suckers. “Oh, the government (whoever the Hell that is) won’t let us starve. Get real. Somebody will keep the lights on and things going. Gosh. Don’t be an alarmist.”
No one in government has the job title of “Keeper Of Lights On”, or “Manager of No Starving People”. When things crash everyone jumps ship. No one shows up for work. They have their own families to keep alive. Some will try to keep water flowing or sewage pumping but when power cuts out they can only go home, too.
If you gave the average New York City or Beltway resident ten acres of cropland and the correct seeds, equipment, fertilizers, pesticides, etc..., how many of them would be capable of raising enough food to sustain themselves and how many would end up starving to death?
whenever anyone says the next civil war will be the haves versus the have nots i tell them BS- its going to be those that do (take responsibility for themselves) versus those who wont (take responsibility for themselves)...
I recommend Tom Chittum's book on the subject "Civil War II". He lived in Yugoslavia when it came apart, and it made him do some serious research on what causes countries to go into civil war. One of his predictions is that if civil war breaks out in will inevitably turn into fighting along ethnic lines. (Kinda like voting...only more so.) I can't duplicate his reasoning here, but it's pretty compelling and worth the time to read.
He provides a checklist of things that indicate we are on our way to civil war. The book was published over a decade ago, and every day more of the stuff on the checklist shows up in the news.
The states should secede
After all, they will think they deserve it.
If that happens, we will fight, we may die, but the takers will have to work for what they get.
They will not get it all, either.
I used to think that, but I've been reading this neo-confederate blog Occidental Dissent and he's done a great job of convincing me that (most of) the South is pretty coherent. There are a few states that are wobbling. Florida, with the influx of Northern retirees, and Virgina with the DC infestation. But in the south the GOP controls both houses and the Governorship in all 11 states of the Old Confederacy. Despite states like Mississippi and Alabama having 33% black voters these states still went for Romney in the election, because Whites vote as a block. 89% went for Romney in Mississippi.
The South is not incoherent. As the author of the blog has pointed out: the South has opposed Obama in both elections, opposed every other liberal POTUS candidate for a generation, doesn't support gay marraige or the gay military, loves the military and sends her sons to fight in our wars, had to have much of the destructive Great Society pushed down their throats by Northerners and hasn't agreed to most of the drift leftward of the last 40 years: it has been forced on them, occasionally at bayonet point.
I'm not an expert, but I don' think there are. I think it's civil law, or some other special tax law. I think this is something that angers hard core anti-tax people.
I love that map! Another great graphic Travis. Can you repost some of the Aztlan ones in this thread?
There are significant numbers of 'kids' who know what they are hearing and seeing in the public schools is BS. Why do you think they cop an attitude? All the namby-pamby crap they have been fed just fuels their disgust for the lies and fables they have been fed. Of these some decide to get whatever they can, however they can. They 'play' the counselors, learn all the buzzwords and the 'right' thing to say, feed the BS back, and then do whatever.
An amazing number of them are already in rebellion, but they need guidance.
They need someone who won't feed them a line of crap, demean them for doing the stuff kids do to try to establish some sort of collective identity, setting themselves apart from the people who are feeding them a line of crap.
The socialists have tapped into that on one end, and are the ones feeding the crap on the other.
Ignore, for a moment, their appearance, watch their actions, and see which ones might listen. Treat them just like any other person--ignore the act, and you might win through. Mentor them, if they are willing.
Get a kid's head wrapped around the ideas of freedom, the alternate rebellion, and you are halfway to winning another young mind for Liberty.
Very DAREing
Tone round here
Im down with it
Rare to see all three Keepers of the List on the same thread.
Not good.
I agree with 208.
Just chop FL off below Gainesville; the northern tier of FL is solidly part of The South.
I agree. We need to knock off all this sour grapes nonsense. I still believe that conservatism is the best hope of our country, and I always will, but let’s be realistic. We lost an election. Ok, it’s happened before, and will happen again. The same can be said of he libs. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose. The thing for us to do is show that we are serious adults by picking ourselves up, dusting ourselves off, and getting back to work.
We also need to stop hyterically attacking the other side as being nothing but “Takers” and treating them with contempt. That is no way to get the support of the people. A lot of liberals are already calling us the “Blame Americans first” crowd. Not good. I’m not any happier about he election results than anyone else on the right, but we have to deal with it. We have to remind people that WE are the real patriots in America. We can’t do that by talking about revolution, succession, and all that other nonsense.
Interesting position...I see where you are going with it...
The only problem is those that do not take responsibility for themselves can’t fight us in a conventional sense...
Their folks that take up arms against us will be the Federal government forces that may or may not be totally for that direction, therefore there won’t be any real fighting to take place in my opinion...
Sure, they’ll target a few areas that are a sure thing for them to win a decisive battle with...And the media will call it a victory and the war will be over...blah blah blah...
Some of us within earshot are a bit more clever than this...And the opposition are not anywhere near ready for those kind of folks...
Just a suggestion for people who disagree with each other:
Say, “I disagree...here is what I think...” and then proceed from there.
Much better than, “You idiot!” and “You pussy!” etc...
And here is the best secret weapon of all. Even if the other person calls you an idiot...you don’t have to respond in kind.
That may be the kernel of the problem. Before the gov't safety net, there was a high price for stupidity and laziness: hunger, cold, etc., perhaps even death. Today there is much less a price to be paid. So, if all someone wants is a warm room, meals, and TV, why not be stupid and lazy?
