On Friday, Pentagon spokesman George Little provided new details of U.S. military movements made the night of the attack in case they were needed.
Little said that within a few hours of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta ordered U.S. military forces to move to Sicily in preparation for an uncertain situation in Libya.
“This department took swift action,” said Little. “It did respond, the secretary ordered forces to move.
“We were prepared for a range of contingencies in the course of this very tragic incident,” said Little. “We were ready for the need to augment security measures at our facilities in Libya, if called upon. We were prepared for the possibility, for instance, of a hostage situation, as well...

As previously reported, one of the units came from a U.S. military base in “Central Europe.” And Little disclosed that Panetta also ordered another team from the United States to head to Sigonella. Little refused to describe what kind of unit was sent from the U.S., though it was presumably a special operations team trained for hostage rescues.
Little said both the units “did not arrive until after the entire sequence of events was complete. … They were in Sigonella many hours after the attacks.”

Little reaffirmed that no other American aircraft were involved over Libya the night of the attack beyond the unarmed surveillance drone that arrived 90 minutes into the attack. As for reports that an AC-130 gunship could have been dispatched over Libya at the time of the attack, Little was clear that “there was no AC-130 within a continent’s range of Benghazi” that night.

My thoughts too. When Panetta early on talked about them coming up with plans that satisfied the 24-hour requirement, I was thinking that might fit a hostage situation but not a deadly attack. I think Panetta might have accidentally revealed that they were counting on this being a hostage situation. It would explain Obama going to bed instead of seeing this thing through to the end.
My Brother-in-Law was a naval aviator. I know he was stationed in Sicily back in the 60s or 70s. He flew Neptunes but I bet there were a lot of other aircraft there too.
Do the Marines or Navy have a version of a gunship? I bet they do but don’t know for sure.

That actually fits with the theory I've seen kicked around that our government knew the attack was going to happen and that the goal was to take hostages allowing Obama to trade the Blind Sheikh for our Ambassador and any other hostages.
Back door deal with the Muslim Brotherhood and their moles in our government.
Tin foil hat kind of stuff but back on 9/17 it was being reported that the administration was in negotiations for release of the Blind Sheikh, 6 days after the failed kidnapping of Chris Stevens.
Pretty thin, but with this administration nothing surprises me anymore.
This hostage theory has been here on FR almost since day 1.

Additionally, this admiral asserted that high level military of every branch of service is “infected” with political correctness. Spot-on interview, Lou Dobbs rocks and takes no prisoners on his show.
As I understand it, the muslim brotherhood in Egypt wanted the freedom of the blind sheik who is in prison in NYC for the first WTC bombing. So they came up with this plan which included the video, (that would have been blamed on ‘the Jews’,) to start riots to cover for the kidnapping of Stevens in Libya. THEN obama could ‘negotiate’ freedom for the sheik in return for Stevens and appear to be a hero all before election day. However, the SEALs defied orders to stand down, interfered with this plan, and they all died.
That’s the short version. It is really much more complicated than that.

Rapid Response teams are positioned in strategic points to be REPAIDLY dropped in to act in just these kind of events. They didn't have to be SENT from far off parts.
Sigonella Naval Base (Italy) is on the Island of Sicily just across the Mediterranean from Libya.
Rapid Response team also in Africom (U.S.African Command, over EAst Africa) - was ready to go.

Same deal with the ADmiral positioned at sea - was going in anyway - also fired.
These two actions by obama tell the story. ONLY the president can make the ‘stand down’ order. Only the president can summarily fire such military leaders. And that TWO such leaders were fired with minutes during this attack begs incredulity to think it was just coincidental
