Governance of the Internet could change dramatically following a review of an international agreement on global telecommunications set for this coming December in Dubai. FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell (R) and the State Department's Richard Beaird described the impact of the review during a discussion hosted by the Free State Foundation.

Thanks for the post, Baynative.
“Governance of the Internet could change dramatically following a review of an international agreement on global telecommunications set for this coming December in Dubai.”
Do you happen to know when in December the meeting will be held?
Everybody will have to point their browser to Mecca.com five times a day and click the PRAY button.
I’d rather click on the “NUKE” button.
Can you spell hijack ?
The biggest danger here is if they can make changes under the radar. The only people who want this are the “ruling class.”
Even liberals are against this abomination. They want their porn and their pirated music and videos. So anything that curtails free speech would be hard to get past them. They also like “free stuff.” So anything that taxes the internet will also be met with resistance.
Both articles I’ve seen just said “December” with no specific date.

Guess we shouldn’t have given them the internet.
And we did it so cheaply: we just wanted them to like us.
Now they still don’t like us and are going to tell us how to use the very thing we invented.
Oh well - go pay your taxes. The UN will need the money to enforce their regulations. :)
Is this an actual treaty or is it simply another bogus "agreement" to which we supposedly "must" comply?
“Commissioner McDowell gave an update on a proposal to give the United Nations more control over the Internet on Wednesday, which is backed by China, Russia, Brazil and India. It would give the UNs International Telecommunication Union more control over the governance of the Internet, including cyber security and domain names.”
In other words, give away US advantages for nothing in return, and end up with hardware supplied by the Communist Chinese (Huawei and ZTE) sorting (monitoring) the bulk of Internet traffic and able to take down a lot of service when they want. In the mean time, technology development will grind to a crawl as these hacks can only copy, and innovative firms will be starved for business.
Sounds like another epic disaster to me.
They'll work a deal for all Democrat voters (registered and illegal) to have "diplomatic immunity."
Well said, generally, especially about the ruling class and the liberals.
Dick Morris’ new book (which I have not read yet) seems to be giving specific warnings and information about the plans of the UN on several fronts. I am grateful he is warning people about this issue and its impending danger.
Even if we get Romney into office, we have the danger of the lame duck democrat senate ramming thru UN treaty after UN treaty giving away completely the store of our sovereignty.
I don’t know what we can do about it, but it is a HUGE threat.

Thanks for the info, Livin_large!
I don’t know this, but I suspect it is the development of a consensus that they will then seek to implement, much as we have been seeing with Agenda 21.
That fits. See post 11.
If you want to be on or off the Agenda 21 ping list, please notify me by Freepmail. It is a relatively low volume list in which we have been exploring the UN Agenda21 and related topics. We have collected our studies with threads, links, and discussions on the Agenda 21 thread which can be found here:
