At a press conference this morning on Staten Island, a host of local officials, including Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, gathered to highlight the needs of the hard-hit borough in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. And, although many pols spoke, no one was more impassioned than Borough President James Molinaro, who called the Red Cross an absolute disgrace and even urged the public to cease giving them contributions.

Great to hear that there are still strong outspoken Conservatives in New York like James Molinaro.
How can these people who refused to evacuate now bitch about Bloomberg using resources to open the tunnels? No rescue equipment no food supplies or volunteers can get to them until the tunnels are open
Schumer et al... in front of a camera, imagine that
Typical bunch of jackass politicians trying to look all
important, then being chauffeured back to their luxury homes guarded by armed guards
That Ted Cross sounds like a really lazy guy.
About 11 years ago the Red Cross in San Diego received a lot of donations to help local fire victims. The San Diego chapter of the Red Cross spent the money on a new phone system and expensive office furniture. They are a truly disgusting organization with a long history of corruption. I would never give them one dime.
The Red Cross has been a scam for decades, ask any WWII vet in the pacific (if you can find any left) about them... Yep in a war zone during war, they charged the GI’s for their cup of Joe...
Salvation Army always gets most to those in need.
I am not saying the Red Cross does no good works, but they are slimy. For example they were allowed by J&J who holds the trademark on the red cross in the US to use it for their organization in an agreement made long ago, now Red Cross is being sued by J&J because they are producing products with the logo on them under licensing agreements and selling them.
They are SLIMY.. always have been, always will be.
Obviously yes, they have helped millions over the years, but they are not fully focussed on that, and a lot of money “disappears” on its way to those they do help.
But...... that is beside the point of posting this article.
Prior to IKE some of us in Texas had generators, extra food, water, GASOLINE, etc.
The storm hit. The next day we were out with chain saws cutting away the downed trees and cleaning up. Everybody pitched in and within days things were back to running pretty smoothly.
The federal government? FEMA? The Red Cross? Never saw them. Never needed them.
BTW, FWIW, most of the money raised in the September 11th telethon did NOT go to the people in need.
The Red Cross has been not worth horse dung since WW2. Salvation army is better and the head of it doesn’t make millions...
That's part of the problem with the Red Cross. When people donate to a disaster they naturally expect their money will be used where they targeted it to go. Also, the top dog at Red Cross supposedly makes $500,000 a year. That isn't charity but it almost certainly comes from donations. I agree with Romney that charitable work is best done on the local level. I never give money in cases like this but I will gladly buy canned goods, water, diapers, and blankets and donate them. Those kinds of things are harder to misappropriate (through corruption or ineptness) than cash is.
LOL! I should learn to proofread.
Let he who has never goofed in a post raise their right hand and so swear. (Notice, I don’t have my right hand raised.)
In 92, I worked with a gal that had come from Red Cross. She had been making 6 figures there, and told me that whatever she could get in contributions, she made a 10% commission. She specifically worked at contributions from large corporations.
You do know the Obama blew up the dikes to kill white people thing was completely false, don’t you?
The selected breaching of the dikes was an Army Corps of Engineers action plan set in place years before Obama was president. When water was to reach a certain level the dikes were to be breached. Well the water reached a certain level and the dikes were breached.
If you want your money spent properly do the following:
1. Give to your “local church.”
2. Give to the Salvation Army.
3. If you are able, give needed supplies etc. directly to those in need.
Stay the hell away from the Red Cross.
Easy to blame a charity for slow response. What about people bearing some responsibility for their own situation?
How much have those cities paid in taxes over the last five years and what is their government doing besides blaming the RC?
Clara Barton is rolling over in her grave.
I have had direct and personal experience with the Red Cross in a major disaster. They are vultures. I’ll never give them another penny.
Salvation Army provides almost all of their money to the people who need it and as soon as they can.
Here is a brief rundown of why I don’t like the Red Cross and will not support them.
1. RC will set on the side lines until a federal disaster declaration is made. Why? That triggers their FEMA reimbursement contract. That’s right. RC won’t help until they get paid by FEMA.
2. We fed 1500 people a meal for 4 days on our own. With the federal declaration RC swept in to take over our mess hall. Somehow all the well fed happy people had been fed wrong. Did you know you can’t move a roasted chicken from the oven to the serving line exposed to air? I don’t know any other way to do it.
3. They attempted to condemn relief kitchens at churches piled high with packaged food donations. I suspect they wanted to take the food.
4. They would not help with cots in shelters unless they could take them over. Again... FEMA contract reimbursement
I could go on but no need. NO RED CROSS for me. Local efforts were our best relief. Just people who were OK helping people who were not OK. There are private charities who know what to do and how to organize. So do business leaders and so do just people who need to step up and do something.
The same politicians that are “so” concerned about their cities that bumbling Mayor Bumberg pumps $1.1 million into the political campaign of the anti-gun, union-backed Democrat running for the House in....Florida.
