Given the recent issues the FreeRepublic web site has been having, I thought it would be useful to open a discussion on election night contingency plans. The site was mostly down during the debates, and seems to be having issues keeping up even now. Given that, it seems likely that we're going to have problems on election night.
While twitter and various other sites are good to keep up on election results, I really like to read the posts from like-minded individuals. Right now, FR seems to be the best place for that. In the event FR does go down, what sites do others use as an alternative?
I know that we have the FreeRepublic2 Group on Yahoo, but personally I find that site virtually unusable. It would be great to know if there are other alternatives.
FLR. I know “Jelly Bean” has another site, but I have the bookmark at home....(If I can get *this* to post.)

In regards to your concern I was thinking of the twitter feed if things end up slow - I don’t see too much traffic there.
My personal concern is should I take a drink for each state R wins or just the swing states and what beverage to imbibe. I’m leaning toward a shot of Jameson’s for each state, but I’m concerned I may not make it past the Midwest if things go the way I feel they’re headed

They have great live threads, especially on election night.
Everyone can come to my house. I have pistachios! That sounds great, but I think Arizona might be a bit too much of a drive from here. I'm in a small town just outside of Seattle, and it is very much enemy territory here. Reading the posts here is what keeps me going.
Where are you in AZ?
All we need is a chat server for the live thread.
Use one with a JavaScript client that you can launch in a browser.
If I had the time, I would set one up myself.
www.gopbriefingroom.comThanks! I'm signing up there now.
Just signed up there too, using my FR name.
While a FR chat server would be nice for some situations, I don’ think it would do well on election night. Chat servers are great up to about 12+ people. Then it just turns into chaos - you can’t keep up with all the independent conversations.
If you do want to set one, it’s easy to set up a room in one of the public chat networks (DALNet or EFNet, for example).
Just signed up there too, using my FR name.
Does FreeRepublic have a twitter feed?
Jay Carney implying but omission that they might postpone the election. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/10/29/press-gaggle-press-secretary-jay-carney-aboard-air-force-one-en-route-an
I think I am out of here, to go the way of most all former FReepers whom I never see anymore. Accessing FR takes now 30 minute blocks of time grinding through to connect at all, to access any article, then to post, to convert it to “send”, so it’s insane to behave as if this is okay. It is not.
It has become a lack of respect for a customer base and since I am not a glutton for punishment, nor a fool to endure this, so to pay for it has become ridiculous. Self respect comes in to play eventually, even through my love for the Robinsons’ and for all of you.
Gotta go call and stop the draft to FR, so at least I can lurk when FR is occasionally up.

That’s nice seeing-as-how the Pistachio Growers latest advertisement is the Village People spelling out “CRACK”!
Hmmm, you got any crack to go with the pistachios?
