Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin released a statement on her Facebook page accusing President Obama of engaging in "shuck and jive shtick" regarding last month's attack in Benghazi, Libya.
She was immediately attacked as a racist by Mike Krumboltz of The Ticket:
"For those who aren't familiar with the phrase, "shuck and jive" is a racially-tinged expression.
This morning, I looked up "shuck and jive" on Wikipedia and saw this:
"Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is an American slang term for the behavior of joking and acting facetiously."
This afternoon, I went back to Wikipedia and saw this:
"Shuckin' and jivin' (or shucking and jiving) is an African American slang term for the behavior of joking and acting facetiously."
Some anonymous Progressive went on Wikipedia and inserted the word "African" into the definition in order to dishonestly support the idea that Sarah Palin's use of the term is inherently racist after the fact.
Will you ever get over Macho Grande?
The miracle of the internet has allowed us to witness each stroke of the soviet airbrush in realtime.
“I came in from Memphis, where I learned to talk the jive.” I guess the Grateful Dead are racist too, as well as Eric Clapton with “Willie and.the Hand Jive.” Oh, and how could I forget Skynyrd with “You’re talkin jive, woman when you say to me.” Where does all of this PC nonsense stop?
I picked a helluva week to stop sniffing glue.

As an aside, imagine how much power Governor Palin would have if she was relevant...
Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking!
The thing to do in a situation like this is to make an objective comment on the talk page documenting what changes were made and the context of the change (ie the recent Palin comment) so that there is a permanent indication of what liberal editors have done on the page.
Comments on talk pages tend to remain there forever, although they may be archived on active pages. Its good for people to stumble upon evidence like this sometime in the future.
Yes. A very bad girl. And now, you must be spanked.
barry and the hand jive...

Yes you can amend it but if they detect controversy they check your, er, progressive credentials and you’ll soon find yourself locked out.
Been there, done that
Shouldn’t even be an issue....and as bad of the 50-60s may have been, it was changing. It took the civil rights movement to mess things up (pre CRM two parent families, literacy, percentage of college graduations were all on the rise).
“We went into slavery a piece of property; we came out American citizens. We went into slavery pagans; we came out Christians. We went into slavery without a language; we came out speaking the proud Anglo-Saxon tongue. We went into slavery with slave chains clanking about our wrists; we came out with the American ballot in our hands.
Progress, progress is the law of nature; under God it shall be our eternal guiding star.”
~~ Booker T. Washington
For years people have "shucked" corn, removing the papery husk and silk from the ears. Peas are also "shucked" from their pods. These labor intensive tasks were often accomplished by several people working together, sitting on the back porch around a washtub full of vegetables that were to be shucked of their inedible portions. Many hands made the work go quickly and gossip among the workers relieved the boredom.
I believe "jive" started as a reference to early jazz music which extended to include dance done to "jive" music. Ultimately "jive" included the people dancing to the jive music, interpreted as silly or uninhibited. The gossip then could be jive or silly talk.

PS People used to "shuck" their clothes before skinny dipping at the 'ol swimmin' hole. Archaic English?
Palin must have seen it performed many times over the two seasons that her daughter was on the show.

The shuck part I knew, having shucked my share of horse and cow corn.
Wasn’t clear on the jive except the kin did a lot of yapping as we sat around shuckin’. ....;)
