Texas attorney general warns UN poll watchers to keep their distance

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot sent a letter Tuesdsay warning United Nations-affiliated poll watchers that they do not have jurisdiction in the state and will, therefore, be criminally prosecuted if they attempt to interfere at Texas polling locations on Nov. 6.

The letter, addressed to Ambassador Daan Everts, came in response to the announcement that the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe will deploy scores of election monitors to the U.S. in an effort to monitor conservative groups for voter suppression or intimidation.

if they attempt to interfere

Not good enough. They will be arrested if they step within the polling perimeter and if any talking or interfering with voters they will be arrested. Keep this trash out of Texas.

When the ICC was being considered by the U. N., it came to light that a clear majority of nations didn’t have to sign on to get it passed. In fact, leaders of nations didn’t even have to submit their plan to approve to their own legislatures first. If they wrote a letter, that was sufficient for the U. N.

Now it wants to oversee our elections?

Why do we allow those sanctimonious anti-Americans on our soil in the first place. And why are there U. S. outposts across our nation?

I object to them being here.

I will be an election judge in Texas (Galveston County) on Nov 6. Here are the relevant passages of the Texas Election Code (Chapter 33):

WATCHER DEFINED. In this code, “watcher” means a person appointed under this subchapter to observe the conduct of an election on behalf of a candidate, a political party, or the proponents or opponents of a measure.
Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986.

Sec. 33.002. APPOINTMENT BY CANDIDATE. (a) Watchers may be appointed by each candidate whose name appears on the ballot or the list of declared write-in candidates in an election for:(1) a public office other than the office of vice-president of the United States; or(2) an office of a political party.(b) In an election for an office of the state government that is filled by voters of more than one county, watchers may also be appointed by the candidate’s campaign treasurer.(c) In an election for an office of the federal government that is filled by voters of more than one county, watchers may also be appointed by the chair or treasurer of the candidate’s principal campaign committee or by a designated agent of the chair or treasurer.
Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986. Amended by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 864, Sec. 32, eff. Sept. 1, 1997; Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 1349, Sec. 15, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.

Sec. 33.003. APPOINTMENT BY POLITICAL PARTY. (a) The county chair of each political party that has one or more nominees on the ballot may appoint watchers.(b) If the county chair does not make an authorized appointment, any three members of the county executive committee may make the appointment.
Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986. Amended by Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 864, Sec. 33, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.

Sec. 33.004. APPOINTMENT FOR WRITE-IN CANDIDATE. (a) A group of registered voters may appoint watchers on behalf of a write-in candidate in an election in which a declaration of write-in candidacy is not required to be filed.(b) To be eligible to participate in the appointment under this section of a watcher for a precinct polling place, a person must be a registered voter of the precinct. To be eligible to participate in the appointment under this section of a watcher for an early voting polling place, the meeting place of an early voting ballot board, or a central counting station, a person must be a registered voter of the territory served by that facility.(c) The minimum number of voters required to make an appointment under this section is the lesser of:(1) 15; or(2) five percent of the registered voters of the appropriate territory as determined from the list of registered voters to be used for the election.
Acts 1985, 69th Leg., ch. 211, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1986. Amended by Acts 1991, 72nd Leg., ch. 203, Sec. 2.38; Acts 1991, 72nd Leg., ch. 554, Sec. 9, eff. Sept. 1, 1991; Acts 1997, 75th Leg., ch. 1349, Sec. 16, eff. Sept. 1, 1997.

Sec. 33.005. APPOINTMENT FOR ELECTION ON MEASURE. (a) In an election on a measure, watchers may be appointed by the campaign treasurer or an assistant campaign treasurer of a specific-purpose political committee that supports or opposes the measure.

I don’t see UN as a group that can appoint poll watchers. And I will (and have in the past) call the police to maintain order in my polling place, if necesary.

To watch out for conservative voter intimidation? WTF? Who was harassing voters in 2008?

Yes, God bless Texas, and grant American men in the other 49 states some balls!

If you read the article, it's more than just non-interference. The law bans "international observers" from within 100 feet of the entrance to a polling place.

This whole accusation is a crock anyway. Our election laws are far less stringent than most third-world countries. Try to vote in Mexico without an ID.

What would really be interesting is if we went to the system used in places like Iraq: your thumb is inked with an indelible purple ink. That would end absentee voting and early voting.

Then, we could concentrate on the fraud by the people that conduct the elections.

Don't hope. The communist Left is just itching to concoct a martyr and cry foul. Better to just lock them out at the front end.

Here's an idea. Send these UN poll watchers to Philly. Let them watch the New Black Pampers poll watchers. And vice-versa.

Now THAT should be a helluva show!

“Non-citizens aren’t even allowed in polling places here in MA. In TX ...?”

The answer is yes, they can under some circumstances. A voter in Texas can receive assistance in casting their vote from any individual except an employer or a union official. Even if the assistant is not a registered voter. If a registered voter (a citizen) comes in with a foreign national to assist in casting a ballot, that individual is permitted in the polling place. The assistant must be capable of understanding and swearing to the oath of assistance, and can only mark the ballot as directed by the voter.

So let’s say you burned your fingers too badly to mark a ballot (which should teach you to mess around with Democrats). You can come into the polling place with your eight-year-old child or the child’s English nanny, and either — if they swear the oath of assistance and can read the ballot — can mark the ballot as directed by the voter.

Every state should/must set up watchdog law enforcement to make sure these interlopers get no more accommodation than any other USA citizen. I have no compunction or worry about these foreigners being put in jail for a time. It is time we stood up and told the world this is the USA and we are not servants for the internationalists.

I doubt they will bother our tiny precinct but as a judge, I would do as you say. What are they gonna do? I mean we could launch a chemical weapon and they won’t notice a thing.
