Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.
The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.

If someone on zero's staff wasn't involved in its creation, they certainly knew about it. They came up with it as an all purpose excuse far too quickly considering how obscure it was.
The counter to that is in the case of the raid on UBL, he DID blurt
out the truth, prematurely. And that tipped off the other AQ leaders
who ran for cover before the US could exploit the treasure trove
of intelligence found at UBL’s compound.

“Please proceed, Mr. President.”
I just got off the phone with a friend and he said exactly the same thing you did, word for word. Your post jumped right off the page when I came across it.
My friend is really astute by the way. :)
If you look at the images from the Egypt protests there were westerners participating in that, and they were wearing those stupid white grinning Guy Fawkes [sp?] masks. Some of the photos, when reused in later reports, were cropped to remove the white guys. Maybe they were omitted because people might wonder why western anarchists would participate in a protest alleged to be about a video that insults the prophet?
Great catch! 0bama lied about his statements in the previous debate. Bookmarked.
I have a friend like that too. He told me in ‘94 that Isam was going to be a major problem. He told me in ‘98 that we would have violence on the border and big problems there. I talked to him the other day about my views on this and he was in total agreement. 0bama had sole authority to act and he did nothing. He was AWOL. 0bama deserted his post in the heat of battle.
Yeah, how come it isn’t on Drudge yet? That’s so not like him.
U.S. Diplomatic Mission in Benghazi Under Attack (SBU).
The Regional Security Officer reports the diplomatic mission is under attack. Embassy Tripoli reports approximately 20 armed people fired shots; explosions have been heard as well. Ambassador Stevens, who is currently in Benghazi, and four COM personnel are in the compound safe haven. The 17th of February militia is providing security support. The operations Center will provide updates as available.

Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack (SBU).
Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli.
That’s a mistake. The resignation was of a Sec of the Navy in the Reagan years— some freeper picked an awkward time to report a very old article that readers assumed was today’s sec of the navy.
Good links. Thanks.
ABC is putting up the actual emails? I smell media feeding frenzy on this one.
Great one. That looks like a cartoon to me.
As much as I despise Hillbilly only one person had the authority to order a rescue on foreign soil. Only The Won.
Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack (SBU).
Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli.
These e-mails are very damning in regards to all of the lies and obfuscations that were put into play after the fact of the attack. But let's keep in mind that the failure to implement any attempt to rescue or intervene in the attacks as they occurred should not have in any way hinged upon knowing who was responsible for the attack.
Compare with Harvey Birdman meeting George Jetson ‘from the future’
Birdman: What are these?
George Jetson: (slowly) Punch cards. You take them and slide them into a sophisticated device called a com-pu-ter.
I’m not trying to be a Gloomy Gus here, but I hate sources like this:
“The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity,...”
Two things, either they are trying to use the media to flush out a leak, or people in the government have heard people like beck making an appeal to blow the whistle on benghazi....
