SHAWMUT - Montana is increasingly harnessing the power of wind.
Thursday marked the official groundbreaking ceremony for a wind turbine project in Shawmut. Senator Max Baucus set the groundwork for the plant during a 2010 trip to China that brought him face to face with officials from the second largest wind turbine company in the world, Goldwind.
"I went and talked to them. I said hey, you know, we're a great state. And a lot of people don't know about Montana."
That's when Goldwind agreed to come to Big Sky Country and struck a deal for the 20-megawatt plant. Tom Rosenzweig is the CEO of Goldwind USA and manages projects within the U.S.
"We're excited about the opportunity to come here and create some jobs in Montana and build some clean renewable energy in the United States."
The company then set its' sights on the wind-swept community of Shawmut as the right location, Roy O'Connor's land to be exact. He's excited about wind turbines on his property.
"It's just so great to have potential for renewal resources. We have the wind in Montana. We have plenty of wind. And we're utilizing it now, or will be soon for electricity."
The wind farm will supply 5,000 homes with electricity and create nearly 75 jobs during construction. Senator Baucus believes the turbines will help Montana become a leader in utilizing renewable resources.
"When somebody builds a project in our state, word spreads. People say gee, well Goldwind likes Montana, maybe we should look at Montana too, there's no question."
Baucus believes other Montana communities can also benefit from the advantages of wind energy. Construction of the wind turbines began in August this year and is expected to wrap up sometime in December.
just wait till winter comes and the temps are well below zero and the wind turbines do not work!!!!
Major Oil and Gas Reserves
The Unites States contains vast hydrocarbon reserves of oil, coal and natural gas.
There are over 70 provinces in the United States that contain hydrocarbon-bearing basins. Periodically, the U.S. Geological Survey Central Energy Team provides an assessment of hydrocarbon reserves in the United States.
.....
These basins are:
1.Western Oregon
2.Eastern Oregon/Washington
3.Sacramento Basin, CA
4.San Joaquin Basin, CA
5.Montana Thrust Belt
6.North/Central Montana
How in the hell can environmentalists think UNSIGHTLY, BIRD-KILLING WIND TURBINES are good? And solar panels as well. UGLY, DESPICABLE EYE SORES!!! Remember when Teddy Kennedy didn’t want them offshore near his house? HYPOCRITES!
” just wait till winter comes and the temps are well below zero and the wind turbines do not work!!!! “
Hey, shut yo mou !!
Wind power is the smoke enema of the 21st century (c).
My neighbor just covered the south side of his roof with solar panels. That required he cut-down all the trees on the south side of his house, at his expense. The panels are already covered with wet dead leaves from the trees on the north, east, and west sides of his house. He has no way to get up on the roof unless he uses a 35-foot ladder. The pitch of his roof is approximately 40 degrees. I think I hear an ambulance...
And what do you do with the overproduction? You can’t store it.
I woner if you factor in the construction costs, and maint.
costs, what the savings is. I’ll bet it costs twice as much LOL!

Also, I will get laughed at, but when you think about it, these wind turbines disrupt wind flow upon the surface of the earth and in large numbers could possibly affect climate in some areas. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Prove me wrong!
Another breaking wind story /s
just wait till winter comes and the temps are well below zero and the wind turbines do not work!!!!
I want to know what sort of de-ice system the blades have. A thick coat of ice breaking off in a storm would make a dangerous ice spear.
Oh - I forgot that the wind farm is going to use Democrat politician hot air for deicing.
Forgetful me.
;-)
Hey, shut yo mou !!
Besides which, wind is bankrupting euro governments because of subsidies. Montana should stick with gas and oil. The wind party is just about ready to turn out the lights.

“We had to destroy the environment to save it.”
Pinwheel farms....and just about as useful.
You could, but that would add a cost-deficit on top of what is ALREADY not cost-effective.
Take THAT, so-called 'environmentalists'!
here is State of Tx reprot for last year - In April 2010, wind produced 12.1 percent of the states electricity, using more than 2,000 West Texas wind turbines to reach that volume. (BTW Texans passed a service fee of $1.00 per month to pay for transmission lines.)
These wind turbines pay landowners and municiple property holders very large fees. It has changed the way that school districts have managed constrution of schools in places like Abilene and othe W. Tx small towns. Maybe that is why we have 800,000 jobs created in past foru years. People are staying in their home towns - building things.
