Comedian Tim Allen has an idea for a home improvement at the White House: Get a new tenant!
A rare Republican in Democrat-loving Hollywood let alone in prime time Allen delivers a comic smackdown in the season premiere of his ABC sitcom, Last Man Standing.
Its the first sign the GOP may be making inroads in what has been nearly solid support for the president on the left coast.
In the episode, airing four days before the election, Allens uber-conservative character, Mike Baxter, tries to persuade his impressionable 18-year-old daughter to vote for Mitt Romney.

What a classic line!
Tim Allen is the voice for the fantastic Pure Michigan commercials.
smack down this guy
Balance? Like, oh, every other show on television, which is 100% liberal with no balanced anti-liberal jokes? You can see how networks operate. Have a conservative show? Well, make sure its "balanced."
Carrol O’Conner was a SERIOUS Lib!
Man, I loved that show. It’s still funny.
Love his show! He had a line or two ripping on Obama last season. I loved the tree episode where the family stands up to some bureacrat. The most recent news is that the actess who plays the eldest daughter was replaced. I wonder if there was any conflict of a political nature??
Michigan has produced a couple of the Hollywood conservatives. Tom Selleck is another right off the top of my head.
As was Norman Lear, the producer of AITF. But what the producer and the actors ALL failed to get was that even though their intent was to portray Archie as the bigoted ignorant right-winger, even their characature of a conservative was smarter than most libs.
O’Connor is downright communist.
He died in 2001 but, like his contemporary John F. Kennedy, he came from a wealthy liberal Irish Catholic family from the Northeast.
The first conservative Michigander off the top of my head is Ted Nugent.
Sure was. Gag me...
And FreedomLover, the show was really an attempt to stereotype people on the right. Tossed in with the skewed version of decent values was evidences of racism and other unjustified negatives that were focused to cast Conservatives as very bad people, even if they did get some things sort-of right.
Meathead didn’t fair much better, but we should point out that Carol O’Conner’s character didn’t really represent us. It represented the Left’s view of us, what they wanted the audience to take away concerning Conservatives.
One of my favorite characters on All in the Family was Lionel. There was an episode where they were playing this board game. Throughout the game Lionel exposes Mike’s faux liberal compassion for the condensending tripe that it was.
Yeah, but he still votes communist!
I still remember an episode of the tonight show in which Rob 'Meathead' Reiner was a guest. The guest before him was actor Walter Matthau, who had already moved down a seat to make room for Reiner. Reiner was blathering about how AITF was so popular because it showed differing points of view, etc. Mathhau chimed in and said in his totally deadpan manner: "that's not why your show is so popular. Your show is popular because everyone agrees with Archie Bunker."
Meathead really lost it at that point, and was flailing about and shrieking "that is not true! That is absolutely not true!!!"
He lived between Hanover and Concord Michigan when I was growing up. My Cousin was dating Sandra Nugent when she died.
They were just local people and nobody local bothered them. Toby and Sasha went to the same school as everybody else.
I went to college with him in the 70s. Great guy.
Don’t forget Lou Grant(Ed Asner).
In the end. Archie was right about Meathead all along.
