Comedian Tim Allen has an idea for a home improvement at the White House: Get a new tenant!
A rare Republican in Democrat-loving Hollywood let alone in prime time Allen delivers a comic smackdown in the season premiere of his ABC sitcom, Last Man Standing.
Its the first sign the GOP may be making inroads in what has been nearly solid support for the president on the left coast.
In the episode, airing four days before the election, Allens uber-conservative character, Mike Baxter, tries to persuade his impressionable 18-year-old daughter to vote for Mitt Romney.

Because he was a refection of himself.
As controversial as “Guess Who’s Coming For Dinner” was in the 1960’s. A conservative portrayed on TV, and in a non-negative light? Shocking!
AHHH! reflection!
Tim Allen used a lot of real life stuff on Home Improvement. I remember an episode where he and his wife were on some kind of road trip and stopped at the Ivory Bistro Outside Coldwater Mi. (near Allen Michigan really but close enough for the show)
Lear actually stole that idea from Brit TV, which had a sitcom with a bigoted guy called Alfie.
Lets not forget Alice Cooper and Kid Rock.
It wasn’t ‘stolen’. Lear purchased the rights and the British show was mentioned in the credits of every AITF episode. Incidentally, Warren Mitchell, the actor who played the bigoted character from the Brit show is still alive. Pushing 90.
One of the best sit-com lines ever.

The irony is that Archy was supposed to be this WASO character, but as OConnor played him, he has flat out Irish. Further irony: Irish Catholics are probably more racist than most Georgians, because they were working class and had to compete with blacks for all kinds of work. Given it to thr Irish, though: they hated all other ethnic groups as well. In their bigotry, they were egalitarian. Let an Italian priest come into their parish, and the women wouldnt go to confession when he was in the box.
It's like the movie "Wall Street," which was supposed to paint Gordon Gekko as a greedy villain. Instead, he became a role model for stock brokers and day traders in the 90's.
His stuff from the 80s is among the best comedy written. I still think of parts of his routines and laugh out loud, just thinking about them.
In a way, Archie Bunker does not really represent the current Conservative stereotypes being pushed by the media: he wasn’t a ‘wealthy corporate fat cat 1%-er’ nor was he a ‘Redneck Fundie’. He was a blue collar union worker - a demographic that today is more often associated with Liberals.
And you know, Everything he said was right on the mark. The prophets strip off the vail of the temptress and left the bridegroom see her face in the light. But if he is blind he will not see what is below the paint.

Looks like the censors had a field day.
My GF (RIP) used to say, “I’m not a bigot. I’m a misanthrope.”
Norman Lear got rich ripping off the Brits. Sanford and Son was taken from Brit sitcom "Steptoe and Son".
