maybe the first purpose was to provide justification for “war on drugs” expenditures - ‘see there are massive amounts of drugs coming into the country and we need all these invasion of privacy laws to protect you from these drugs and we need all these fbi agents to track the drugs and we need all these swat teams to get the druggies arrested and we need all these judges to put the druggies in prison and we need all these prisons to put the druggies in and we need all this welfare to support the children and wives of the druggies in our druggie prisons and the welfare wives will vote for Democrats as long as they remain on welfare because of course it’s Republicans who are fighting the drug war and putting you all in jail, not Dems you see.’

IMHO, this is one of the primary reasons the War on Drugs is such a farce.
If the government truly didn't want drugs coming into the country, there wouldn't be any....or at least a lot less.
The fact is, they only want to control the drugs coming into the country because it provides a massive under the table income for them while also providing a massive amount of income for the governments via the judicial/law enforcement/incarceration complex.
Think about it. Some of the political elite have provable records as to where their enormous wealth came from. Others.....not so much.
LOL! Control and unlimited money. What more could a socialist want?
