IMHO, this is one of the primary reasons the War on Drugs is such a farce.
If the government truly didn't want drugs coming into the country, there wouldn't be any....or at least a lot less.
The fact is, they only want to control the drugs coming into the country because it provides a massive under the table income for them while also providing a massive amount of income for the governments via the judicial/law enforcement/incarceration complex.
Think about it. Some of the political elite have provable records as to where their enormous wealth came from. Others.....not so much.

The Mexican government is working with the US government on this. That is why the Mexican government did not raise a ruckus about Fast and Furious like they normally would. The guns were going to their chosen cartel.
Does it surprise anyone that the Feds who created fast and furious (and who named Obama’s political and social enemies domestic terrorists) would also aid in dealing drugs here? Anyone who thinks the Mexican government would stay out of the drug business does not understand the depth and tradition of corrpution in the Mexican government.
