Arlen Specter, who scuttled his U.S. Senate career after switching to the Democratic party in an ill-fated battle to retain his longtime Senate seat, died Sunday in Philadelphia.
Specter, 82, who announced in late August that he was battling cancer, died at his home from complications of non-Hodgkins lymphoma, said his son Shanin.
Specter underwent treatment for cancer three times during his senate career. He suffered from a malignant brain tumor and was treated twice for non-Hodgkins lymphoma, in 2005 and in 2008.

His family will miss him
No one else will.
Buh bye.
The term RINO was invented for Sen. Specter.
My sympathy goes to his family.
NEXT!!!
I don’t curse at the dead.......but I have one question. Did he leave a note, telling us what the Warren commission really found out?
My Dad was acquainted with Specter during the 1960s and even met Specter’s father (WWI vet) not long before the elder Specter died. My Dad liked Arlen, and found him to be a decent and personable man.
I will always remember Specter for dismantling Anita Hill and then exposing that California judge who testified on her behalf as a liar. He deserves a lot of credit for getting Clarence Thomas confirmed. Also, Specter was front-and-center in killing Hillarycare (the ultimate irony, given Specter’s later support for the equally communist Ubamacare). These were the times I was glad Specter was a Republican senator.
Unfortunately, in the end these times were few and far between.
Specter, originally a Democrat, always played his politics well in Pennsylvania, where he was a master at pandering to both sides and always managing to split the difference enough to win term after term. He was careful to never get the unions and the old-fashioned Democrats upset with him, and he could always count on most Republicans shrugging, holding their noses and voting for him.
That scheme came to an end with the evolution of the Democrat party to its brazen embrace of Euro-style socialism and cultural decadence, and the subsequent rise of the “tea party”. Specter, who was desperate to hold onto his royal seat in the US Senate, saw the writing on the wall - - he was going to lose the next GOP primary. In his desperation, he switched parties and sealed his own fate, a fate which was a long time coming and a long time avoided. The dance on the head of a pin wouldn’t work anymore.
RIP Arlen Specter.
I don't give a damn.
on a completely unrelated subject, my friends say good things come in threes....

may it be the same for all life-long pols...
The rest of the country will miss him like a boil on the fanny.
Thanks, I can use that paragraph in a lot of ways.
This just in: Former Senator Arlen Specter (D-PA) has been registered to vote in Cook County, Illinois. A spokesman for the Senator says he intends to vote early and often.
Well, now he knows if the magic bullet theory works or not.
When he re-joined the Communist Democrat Party, I lost any respect I had left for him.
I wish God would have restrained his terrible influence several decades sooner than He did.
He still has time to vote for Obama.
RIP ya miserable git
