The ad is titled Dinner Table and features a recently unemployed father trying to eat dinner with his worried wife and two kids. The only sounds that can be heard are the tinkling of utensils as the family unnervingly pokes at their food. It is a scene that has been played in real life in millions of homes across America during the Great Recession and the so-called recovery.
After 23 seconds, the ad, which was created, written, and directed by Jon Kahn, then fades to a black-and-white question on the screen: 12.1 million Americans unemployed. Isnt it time to try something different?"

“I feel completely useless.”
Buck up, camper. Things WILL get better. This is the worst the economy has been in my lifetime by far. It will pick up.
As for unemployment, been there, done that and I know it deeply sucks. I was a little younger than you are at the time. I did find something eventually although it was outside my chosen career field and it forced me to move to an area where I didn’t want to live. Turned out I liked the new career field more anyway.
Prayers up for a job for you.
In which states is this being shown?
This is from AFP, isn’t it? I think they’re not allowed to mention the name of any candidate.
Enough women routinely dye their hair for fashion or vanity reasons that her hair color isn’t really relevant.
Nope, they don’t need to do that - it might result in people demanding NASA funding be increased with no strings.
The problem with the demoralization plan, which many people who use it don’t realize, is that eventually you get to the point where people have nothing left to lose and they no longer feel bound by anything.
“I would add that these are the types of leftists that bombed the pentagon, and planned on murdering millions of Americans to set up their Utopia.”
I just refer to the “black book of communism” if you want a taste of what the radical left is willing to do to accomplish it’s goals. Along with “rules for radicals” it’s required reading for the conservative that wants to understand the enemy.
I can relate, I was that unemployed dad back in 2003 and I cannot put into words how afraid I was for my family's future back then, as I've been the sole breadwinner in my home since 1999 when my wife quit working to take care of our 1 and 3 year old children at the time.
It took me four months back then to find a new position. I've never felt "comfortable" in a job since. Especially now. I look at people who I personally know that are unemployed and struggling to pay their bills and think to myself "there but for the grace of God go I."
I'll only start feeling better about this country's and my children's future once the worst President ever, Barack Hussein Obama is turned away from office. THEN this country can finally begin an economic recovery in earnest.
Something else for your reading collection; “the Coming Insurrection” by “the invisible committee”. Copies are on the net. About 60 pages of difficult reading. Explains a lot of the current strategy of the radical left. Another FReeper turned me on to it.
Thanks, I’ll search for it. Sounds like essential reading.
PING.....to the ad that might just win it for the People
>> I cannot put into words how afraid I was for my family’s future
You don’t have to. Millions of us know exactly what you’re talking about.
“Its far more than 12.1 million. Why are both sides afraid of the numbers?”
12.1 million is the official number.
If they used the real U-6 number, or the 24 million unemployed and underemployed number, they’d be accused of ‘lying’ by the liberal MSM who covers for Obama.
Remember when he he was head of the Chicago city council and filibustered the new statute banning condo conversions until the lawyers could finish converting Marina Towers to condo? (He owned a big slice of the building.)
He wasn't known as Fast Eddie 'cause of his jogging speed.
We need to produce an ad showing Obama golfing, eating lobster, vacations in Hawaii.
Then ask, are YOU better off than you were 4 years ago?
My wife was talking to a friend of hers down south the other night...she mentioned that some of the ladies were prettry wound up over the 'Big Bird' thing...I can't take it.
I’d like to see a Hispanic version for select markets.
I wonder if the wife should at least touch her husband’s hand for just a quick second w no comment - might tug a few female votes. No emotion from husband - we don’t want to emote anger or sadness or anything else. Just reality.
One of the kids should keep his or her head down a bit more.
I really like the husband’s plaid shirt. Screams middle class and perhaps blue collar without being overt.
Spktyr,
The NASA comment was my sardonic / invective humor lately which seems to frighten FR-ers, and would even scare away Ann Coulter IMHO. Like many I have had enough, especially letting 20,000 of our finest engineers go only to hook a ride with the Ruskies and make NASA's purpose Muslim outreach...
On the demoralization, rather than nothing to loose I think BHO expects many to gravitate to his ever increasing safety net or hammack. The family in the video might have a huge mom/dad "discussion" about it, but some folks are at wits end and maybe have given in if you will.....
The Dems will run a counter-ad with Obama showing up at the door handing them their food stamp card, an unemployment check, and a promise to pay their mortgage for them.
Okay, that was such a punch gut I had to watch it over and over, and cry.
