Back in August, a poll showed Obama with just a 12 point lead over Romney in Cook County, Illinois. While he posted a huge lead in the city of Chicago, the poll found him actually losing to Romney in suburban Cook County. It was a shock that I set aside as an outlier. A new poll of Illinois' 10th Congressional District, which includes parts of Cook County, however, suggests the August poll might not be such an aberration. The poll, from WeAskAmerica, finds Obama with just a 2 point lead over Romney, 47-45 in the suburban district. Obama won the district in 2008 by 23 points.

I agree. That area was blanketed with Obama signs and bumper stickers in ‘08. I’ve seen one this year....
Look again. Check the date of O’s numbers for IL. They are a month old! Sept. 4-10. Why don’t they have more recent figures?

I asked a couple of weeks ago why Obama’s bus tour had stops planned in Illinois; I was told at the time it was for fundraising, but my understanding was that he’d use AF1 for that.
I’m seriously hoping (and hopefully not deluding myself) that at this point he is just trying to save face by not losing his home state.
Are you watching “The Five?” It was just mentioned that something negative on Romney was coming out of Chicago.
FWIW
This is embarrassing.
Obama should hire Chris Christie for future debate practice, assuming it doesn’t completely crater Obamas morale -which is a distinction possibility.
Attack on Mormon Faith? Not a good idea IMO, but expected. The book has already been written. Tried to get people to read it and prepare in the Spring.
I would love to see one of them in southern Illinois, my part of the state. They NEVER show up around here because the state always goes LIB. Most of these lower counties are very conservative except for a few of those WILL NEVER VOTE FOR A REPUBLICAN kind of people. I have seen more Romney signs than Obama but that is probably because there is no need for Obama to show up here.
Yes, many are waking up to Obama's failed economic policies. Unfortunately, we have too me "gimmes" in this country. Those on welfare, food stamps, and other welfare programs will NEVER vote against those who provide them such.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy,...
No one is sure where that quote came from, although many think is was from Alexander Tytler. No matter - it is an absolute truism!!! Give the "gimmes" what they want and they will continue to vote for those who give them more. Such is the situation in American and Europe.
It would be magnificent if that marxist puke lost BOTH our states !
ps: I was born waaaay downstate in Franklin Cty .. Benton :-)
Don’t believe the polls. Even the so called good ones can be lies.
The “swing” is everything.IIRC there have only been two Presidents in history who’ve been reelected with *less* support than when first elected.
Considering this is a thread about Chicago, are you channeling Harry Carey, by chance?
Forget the media spin about Obama’s debate implosion. Donor’s will dry up now that the emperiors clothes are off.
Romney/Ryan 2012
Poll ping.
Oh, somebody noticed?
Yes, there is a 20% gender voting gap in Louisiana in minority districts.
“Holy cow. 65 percent women? Its madness! Unless all the minority men are ineligible to vote.”
I am from Illinois. While I would like to think that Illinois will go for Romney it is not going to happen. However, I think the race will go from +25 0 to about +8 to 10 for 0. About a 15 point drop.
4 years ago I saw a number of 0 signs. I have not seen any yet. Just today on the way to work I saw a number of Romney signs. New ones appearing each day. It will be much much closer here.
Why is zero running campaign ads here in Kalifornia? Isn’t it locked up for him too?
I’ve been saying for months that NJ is up for grabs; we’re still liberal Yankees, but things here are REALLY bad. Four years ago there were plenty of Obama stickers; now you don’t even see them on the welfare reservations.
NJ voted Governor Christie into office one year after Obama carried the state; he isn’t perfect, but he is very much an “ant-Obama”...
My thoughts exactly ;) Not sure how accurate this poll is, but the last 4 years have been unprecedented in my life. Never before has a POTUS continued his policies when the public was overwhelmingly against them, AND, they didn’t do what said policies were supposed to. Obama et al are going on and saying Romney is lying and a different man than he was before the debate, but the fact of the matter, Obama is the one trying to act like something he is not at his convention and at the debate. It is too little, too late. He should have changed course in Nov 2010 after the historic drubbing he rec’d. Bill Clinton did that in 1994, and went on to be considered a successful (Democrat) POTUS.
