Lake County School Board officials are considering attaching cameras to school cafeteria trash cans to study what students are tossing after officials found that most of the vegetables on the school menu end up in the trash can.
New federal laws require students to take a healthy produce at lunchtime, but last year in Lake County, students tossed $75,000 worth of produce in the garbage.
"It's a big issue, and it's very hard to get our hands around it," said School Board member Todd Howard, who suggested "trash-cams." "They have to take (the vegetable), and then it ends up in the trash can, and that's a waste of taxpayer money. It's also not giving students the nutrition that they need."
Laurel Walsh, whose daughter attends Tavares Elementary School, says getting kids to eat their fruits and vegetables is not the job of the respective schools.
"I think it starts at home with the parents. If the kids just don't like it because they've never been given it at home, they're not going to try something new here," she said.
No decisions have been made on the cameras, but school leaders say they wouldn't capture students faces, just what they're throwing away.
LLS
“School Board member Todd Howard” either has failed to read Orwell or believes it is a how-to manual.
Brings being a food nazi to a whole new level.
My tag says it all
> school leaders say they wouldn’t capture students faces, just what they’re throwing away.
BS, BS, BS, BS, BS !!!
If they want to see what’s being thrown away, then the administrators just need to dislodge their fat butts from their comfy arm chairs and actually walk to the trash cans and look in. Having a camera for the express purpose of not leaving their desk is a grossly wasteful indulgence.
Here is a news flash. Don’t serve lunches.
Let MAMA make some sandwich for junior to
take to school and if she makes something
he doesn’t like the choice is then his to
either eat it, throw it away, or make it
himself. Let the food stamp program make
the lunch.
There problem solved and money on cameras
saved.
Meanwhile:
They probably can get federal matching funds to install trash cams. Think of the jobs it will create and whose brother-in-law/democrat donor/minority contractor will rake in millions for supplying and maintaining the equipment
made in China probably
Next - veggie police in our schools, trained by the TSA, and vegetable diversity training mandatory for all kids
More obamastimulus money down the toilet
Oh, now they are served raw
but without any seasoning, no salt or peppa allowed
Raw unseasoned broccoli and kale, yum
....vegetable diversity training mandatory for all kids
It may be closer than you think....
....the Toronto District School Boards website encourages children to have sex with vegetables:

Ok, kids, so throw away the lettuce, but keep that carrot in your pocket for later
Second headline: Racist cameras unfairly target blacks.
Sick, Dude very sick.
I’ve got a novel idea.. it’s so simple they won’t do it.
Don’t force the kids to take something they won’t eat. Thus, with in a week or two you will have a good idea of how much to cook up to serve the kids that want it.
The story says they need camaras to study what is being tossed, then it says the veggies are being tossed.
Why waste money on camera’s?
Is this the intelligence of school leaders?
They want the kids to eat the veggies?
Then batter and deep fry them (the veggies, not the children). Almost all veggies taste better that way.
Until junior high school, I never had school cafeteria food. In jr. high, we went on the free lunch program... I have to say, the school food wasn’t very good at all. Why is there such a push to get more kids depending on that swill?
OMG, this has to be from the Onion.
When I was a girl, at dinner, I used to sneak food I didn’t like under the table to my dog (Thank you, Buffy, our Golden Retriever! LOL).
And as for the “it’s not giving our kids the nutrition they need” comment—what does he propose? Force feedings? IV tubes?
They complain about a “waste of taxpayer dollars”—what is more wasteful than a “trash-cam”?
Kids will be kids. Offer them choices, fresh air and exercise, and when they’re hungry enough, they’ll clean their plates.
“Shut up and eat your peas.”

LOL! Perfect. :)
Works for me, but the federal program promises the children will be "hunger-free." Obviously, someone wasn't thinking it through ...
