ALBANY -- A middle-school teacher who had been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a former student was found dead of an apparent suicide Monday morning, authorities said.
James Izumizaki, 28, an Albany resident, was found between 10 and 10:30 a.m. in his car on Via Alamitos in San Lorenzo, according to Sgt. J.D. Nelson of the Alameda County Sheriff's Department. A family member who lives nearby found Izumizaki, he said.
The death is being treated as a suicide, Nelson said. He would not disclose the manner of Izumizaki's death, but said that a gun was not involved.
Izumizaki, a sixth-grade teacher, was arrested at his home Sept. 26 on suspicion of performing a lewd act with a child under 14. A parent told a teacher about the alleged relationship with a female former student. The claim was forwarded to district officials, who placed Izumizaki on administrative leave and alerted police.
He posted bail and was released from jail after his arrest. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office did not immediately file charges pending further investigation, according to deputy district attorney Teresa Drenick.
Izumizaki was a teacher and coach at Albany Middle School for five years and had coached a volleyball and a basketball team, district officials said last week. After he was placed on leave, school officials said they would split students from his sixth-grade class among nine other classes at the school.

I hate the liberal media. If what this guy committed is true, why the sadness? I already know, because liberals would rather side with the criminal rather than the victim.
Hari-kiri?................
My guess would be carbon monoxide poisoning but your guess is way more interesting.
Thank Gaia! Somebody could have got hurt!
Very, very sad. It is not a “gay” lifestyle to allow your base urges to totally consume you.
Perhaps I should have written, Hari-kiri, I hope..........
Why is this sentence even relevant to the story?
Sorry, I just thought that was an odd detail to add.
Okay, my bad. Regardless, there are consequences to allowing your base urges to consume you. I am not without fault, but I am tired of those who publicly profess with all manner of certainty that homosexuality is is fine, or that pornography is totally harmless. It is not.
I sure hope the accusation by the minor is not false. . .
With no second, hopefully.
very possibly true, but with no trial or confession, who knows.
Could be that this "journalist" was simply filling in the blanks on some form that comes up on his work computer. You know, you click on the "Schools | Local | Scandal | Teacher Sex With Student(s)" tab. There's a field on the form for something like "what actions is the institution taking to address the incident(s)?"
So the brain-dead "journalist" asks the school "spokesperson" some question like "is the school taking any actions in the wake of this incident?" and the equally brain-dead "spokesperson" answers "yes, we are moving aggressively to assign Mr. Izumizaki's students to other classes." After a little re-wording to show that his "journalism skills" are up to snuff, that's what the "journalist" enters on the form, and then it's off to the presses, another rewarding day spent giving the public what it needs to know.
Oh.
Wait.
That standard only applies to female teachers and teen boys.
Good riddance.
i looked around. A parent made the accusation and thats about it. Looks like he was arrested last Weds. No charges had been filed as yet.
Guilty or innocent could lead to suicide.
Is that a Penn State t-shirt? (Probably just the school logo, but still...)
It’s always sad when someone commits suicide.
And as Wiggen said, he was charged with sex with a minor, but it wasn’t established. Probably it was true, given that things went that far, but we don’t know for sure.
Given his background, he may have killed himself out of a sense of honor. If so, then it would mitigate his having killed himself.
