When we bought the farm, the chicken coop had a double inside wall that went 1;2 way to the ceiling...There were mice living between the 2 walls so I decided on day to tear down the inside wall, the chickens fought over the mice...2 guineas fought over one until it just tore in half. Had a dam rat that kept chewing through the cement floor. I had to keep filling it in with quik crete...they'd chew through the patch, it took yelling at my husband to get it fixed. Used 2 X 4 for a frame...kept them out, it was always in the same area they could chew through... The farm house and barns were 100 years old...the posts and beams were huge tree's that still had the bark on them in the barns...

I grew up with horses, cows, hogs, and a variety of other farm animals. We used to enjoy harassing the hogs; they squeal when you try to ride them and are pretty hard to hold on to. Of course I was kicked, and butted by various animals and fell off the horses frequently. We never thought about any of the animals being dangerous in any sort of malicious way other than our goose who had a bad attitude on occasion. ; )

How in the hell are you supposed to determine cause of death with a few body parts left over....They'll want to examine the area for obvious things such as bullet fragments, shell casings, bloody tool handle, etc. Just keep the hogs penned in, and periodically sweep the area with a metal detector. Beyond that, everything is circumstantial.

“A hogs closest relative is a... Bear.”
Sarcasm? Obscure media reference?
Hogs and bears are not even close. But the females are both called “sows”.

When I was a kid (about 7 or 8 years old) we used to throw live chickens in the hog pasture, the hogs would run them down and kill and eat them in about one and a half bites. Great sport; until my Grandpa caught us one time, needless to say we never did that again. In retrospect it was pretty sick.

How in the hell are you supposed to determine cause of death with a few body parts left over..Oops. I realize now what you meant. He could conceivably have been murdered then thrown into the pen in attempt to get rid of the evidence. Or he could have died of a heart attack while inside the pen. I hope the hogs have a good lawyer. :)

I know my larger rooster would in a second. If they’re roaming the yard I have to keep a weapon with me at all times. He’s nasty. I want to eat him. My wife won’t let me (yet).

That is one good thing about all the feral hogs.
Sort of like Fireants, no fleas and ticks.

My mom grew up on a farm and I can remember going with my granny to “slop” the hogs. She had a 5 gallon bucket kept right outside the kitchen and everything discarded from cooking went in there ... potato peels as one good example. She would then add some milk from the dairy cows and give it to the hogs. She just leaned over the fence and poured it into the trough.
I asked mom if her folks ever warned her about the hogs and she said ‘no’. I then asked her if she ever fed the hogs ... different reaction ... “oh NO, we never were allowed to do anything with the hogs!” She didn’t know why, but I suspect it was because my grandparents knew they were dangerous. On a side note, Granddad made some great sausage!!

Last fall, one of the relatives shot a 300+ lb feral sow on my place and dragged it into a clearing about 1/2 mile back from the road to "let Nature deal with it".
A couple of days later, I started to point it out to my wife, and all I could find were a few tufts of hair and a couple of toe bones... At first, I blamed the disappearance on buzzards and coyotes -- until my neighbor pointed out that it was more likely her "family" that scarfed her up...

Just a little off topic...
I had a first cousin, once removed who lived alone. He was just a bit eccentric and had a lot of cats in the house. No one realized that he had not been around for a few days and when they discovered his body it was determined that the cats had gotten hungry......
