WASHINGTON (AP) The Obama administration's plan to transfer $450 million in cash to Egypt hit a roadblock Friday as a top House committee chairwoman blocked the move, saying it warrants further review.
Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, said the State Department had notified Congress of plans to move the money to the new government of President Mohammed Morsi as Cairo struggles economically. The money is part of the nearly $1 billion in debt relief that President Barack Obama had promised Egypt earlier this year.
"This proposal comes to Congress at a point when the U.S.-Egypt relationship has never been under more scrutiny, and rightly so," the chairwoman of the Appropriations subcommittee on foreign operations said in a statement. "I am not convinced of the urgent need for this assistance and I cannot support it at this time. ... I have placed a hold on these funds."

My eyes must be going. When I first read the headline, I thought it said “Horse lawmaker”. Now that I think about it, horses couldn’t be any worse. Let’s amend the Constitution to let them serve.
Dainbramage: “Touchdown Kay Grainger!!! Way to go girl! (/Texas rant)
Thank you, Rep. Kay Granger. Now if they can hold.
Finally, someone showing some good sense.
The money is part of the nearly $1 billion in debt relief
Am I missing something?
I thought "debt relief" was forgiveness of debt somebody owed us.
If so then no money needs to change hands.
So why is money changing hands?
Americans should sure use that cash infusion.
Showing the world once again why TEXAS is the center of the damn universe! Block ANY funds going to Egypt and any damn where else that isn’t a strong supporter of the USA.
Three cheers for Kay Granger. But she can’t do it alone. Will Boner back her? I very much doubt it.
But we can always hope. Half a billion dollars to aid our worst enemies, in a country whose economy Obama helped wreck, and from a country that is drowning in debt?
Aid for Muslim terrorists to destroy Israel and kill Americans? Only Obama . . . or Jimmy Carter . . . or maybe Boner. I hope not the last.
Hmm, she appears to be a classic RINO, just waiting for her cut to give Hussein what he wants.
Republican for Choice, voted first and last to raise the debt ceiling, voted Yes for TARP.
I’ll bet Boehner tries to work out a “compromise” with her.
She did say this three months after Deathcare, but more than two years ago:
It has been three months to the day since President Obamas Health Care bill was signed into law. The American people are still angry and their voices have been heard in the halls of Congress. They did not want this bill. The American people are continuing to learn about the consequences of the legislation and the broken promises from the administration. Higher taxes, fewer personal coverage choices, and government mandates are now reality. I will continue to fight for Texans and continue to push back against this dangerous bill.
Hmm, also saw this:
“Kay Granger voted yes to the continuing resolution that funds Obamacare to the tune of 105 billion dollars.”
Bet she’s waiting for a kickback to OK the cash to Hussein’s muslim buddies in Egypt.
The U.S. should withdraw all funding for any countries who are already known to be hostile to the United States.
If we have to have a Foriegn Aide Program,We should give it to people who are friendly toward us.
Maybe she is afraid of losing her job.
There is no cash infusion. There is no cash. It’s all lines in a ledger. We’re broke. We have more going out than we have coming in.
They’re basically printing money to deliver to a bank to convert to Egyptian currency. It’s a shell game.
from March 2012,
Clinton to let military aid to Egypt continue
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will allow U.S. military aid to Egypt to continue despite Cairo's failure to meet pro-democracy conditions...
Clinton is using a provision in the law that allows her to waive those conditions on national security grounds. Leahy said this sends the wrong signal to the Egyptian military, which has ruled the country since Mubarak was ousted.
"The Egyptian military should be defending fundamental freedoms and the rule of law, not harassing and arresting those who are working for democracy," Leahy said.
You assume Islamic homogenity that doesn’t exist
Barack et al are more dangerous enemies than Egypt. San Francisco is more dangerous than Cairo
“Maybe she is afraid of losing her job.”
Boehner doesn’t seem too worried about losing his.
I think not giving the Muslim Brotherhood, a terrorist organization, any US funds, is a very good move.
Thing is, will this hold or is it a joke?
