Jim DeMint Statement in Support of Todd Akin
JD's Facebook feed | 26 Sep 2012 | Jim DeMint

Posted on 09/26/2012 7:54:35 AM PDT by Yashcheritsiy

Friends, I just released this joint statement with Rick Santorum on our support for Todd Akin in Missouri. Please share! This seat is critical to winning control of the Senate.

"If Republicans are to win back the Senate and stop President Obama's liberal agenda, we must defeat Senator Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Her support of President Obama's job-killing, big-spending policies are sending o...ur country into an economic abyss. And her passionate support of ObamaCare is ensuring healthcare costs go up while quality of care goes down. Simply put, we cannot afford six more years of Senator McCaskill.

"Todd Akin is a principled conservative who is committed to winning and fighting for freedom in the U.S. Senate. Todd will work to stop reckless spending, stop the out of control debt, repeal the government takeover of healthcare, support our military and defend life at every stage.

"We support Todd Akin and hope freedom-loving Americans in Missouri and around the country will join us so we can save our country from fiscal collapse."

The choice is simple. The GOPe can concede a vulnerable seat to the Democrats, or they can win with the guy who won the nomination.

This will be the last election where the GOPe calls the shots.

good post!
if i can support Romney,
with the flip-flopping etc in his past,
then Priebus should get off his high horse,
and do what is necessary to win the Senate!

This is the right thing for DeMint to do, but it won’t win the race for Akin. He cannot get the moderate, independent, women, and youth votes that will be required to beat McCaskill. This may help the circular firing squad behavior that is rampant among conservatives, but it won’t do much to influence the race.

With money and support, Akin can win. If the senate can take Specter for thirty years, it can surely take Akin for six!

The same people that elected John Ashcroft will elect Akin.

DeMint/Santorum .. the adults in the room speak .....

Akin's statement vs. Obama's "bump in the road"
Akin's statement vs. Obama's "you didn't build that"
Akin's statement vs. Obama's "the debt isn't a problem in the short term"
Akin's statement vs. Obama's ME policy that has left the area in flames, dead Americans, al-Quaeda flags flying over US embassies
Akin's statement vs. Obama's AG and Fast & Furious

I could go on and on. Priebus, Rove and the rest of the "GOP elite" who are not supporting Akin should be .... well, you know .... something like being keelhauled comes to mind.

Akin will be fine. He’s weathered the squall generated by the left and their handmaidens in the GOP.

No one is excited about 0zero or McCaskill and she’s locked at the hip with the Kenyan.

Hopefully they can somewhat control the fraud in KC and StL.

Good on Senator DeMint and Rick Santorum.

Newt Gingrich has already come out for AKIN.

MO must support and elect AKIN.

Like Newt says, Harry Reid is a national disgrace and must not be allowed to remain Majority leader.

McCaskill is an Obama hack.

I wonder how many of the 71% of MO voters who voted against Obamacare in 2010 will go towards Akin who VOTED AGAINST IT and wants to repeal Obamacare versus McCaskill who VOTED FOR IT and does not want it repealed. Are MO voters so stupid that they will vote for someone who is inimical to their own interests because the other candidate made a verbal gaffe that has little or no impact on their personal lives?

My children will vote for Akin, as I would if I lived across the river. That is quite a different thing than taking a realistic view of his chances of victory. Don’t you find it odd that Akin, Huckabee, Dobson, the Democrat party, and the McCaskill campaign all agreed that Akin should stay in the race? The money that McCaskill spent helping Akin win the nomination will be the best money that she has ever spent.

Kind of like supporting Romney when you were for anyone else in the pack.

When faced with Obama or Romney, I'm not confused as to which guy will hurt this country, maybe even beyond repair.

Conservatives just had one of their great victories in the 2010 cycle, a historical level victory.

The “circular firing squad behavior” is from your left wing of the GOP.

You can see it in this race, as your left wing is determined to keep Akin out of the Senate and give the seat to the democrats.

I am not debating WHO should be the candidate; I voted for Brunner (he’s a better fit, IMO), and thought Akin should get out. Fact is, Brunnerdidn’t win, and Akin didn’t drop out. So, now we must make the best of the situation.

Expectations aside, having people sitting on the side lines constantly telling the world how Akins doesn’t have a chance, for this reason, or that, does ABSOLUTELY nothing to help our cause.

On an even slate, Akin wins everyday against McCaskill; today I don’t know. What I am certain about is having people spout off about what a crappy candidate he is doesn’t help, and I for one am tired of hearing it daily from people who are supposed to before getting rid of McCaskill.

In the end, I am sure McCaskill appreciates their support, even if it is in a round about way.
