Barack Obama touched on the issue of the federal deficit last night, telling late night talk show host David Letterman that the U.S. doesn't have to worry about the debt "in the short term."
Responding to Letterman's concern about the growing deficit, Obama first deflected blame on to his predecessor, George W. Bush.

Let’s say I have a 200,000 dollar mortage that I pay 1,000 a month for. Assume I have an income of 50,000 a year, so that 1000/moth takes just about 25% of my gross income. My other credit involves 2 cars, some cards, and some purchases, and they total 750 a month. My debt load is 1750 a month, and that leaves me, after taxes, with about 2200 a month to live on and pay other bills like utilities, phone, etc.
Should I be allowed to borrow another 200,000 to re-mortgage my house? If so, should it be each year, maybe twice, or only once?
When would it become a problem?
I’m sure he can’t remember what the unemployment rate was or what our bond rating was. He probably doesn’t remember that gasoline was $1.67/gal the day he got elected either.

The man called Bush unpatriotic and the GOP should get an AD out right now of him saying that and then saying he did not know what the debt was.
The media would have a field day with this if a republican had acted like this, going to Vegas to this in one week.
If anone ever questioned if the media is biased now then just wach them this last two weeks.

I only saw a few snippets of this interview, totally 20-30
seconds, but what I heard him say was that he didn’t know the exact dollar amount of the current debt. Of course he didn’t know the amount when he took office, either.
He can’t remember, Because He doesn’t give a Damn.
