Monsanto Roundup weedkiller and GM maize implicated in ‘shocking’ new cancer study
The Grocer UK ^ | Septembe 19, 2012 | Elinor Zuke

The world’s best-selling weedkiller, and a genetically modified maize resistant to it, can cause tumours, multiple organ damage and lead to premature death, new research published today reveals.

In the first ever study to examine the long-term effects of Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller, or the NK603 Roundup-resistant GM maize also developed by Monsanto, scientists found that rats exposed to even the smallest amounts, developed mammary tumours and severe liver and kidney damage as early as four months in males, and seven months for females, compared with 23 and 14 months respectively for a control group.

“This research shows an extraordinary number of tumours developing earlier and more aggressively -particularly in female animals. I am shocked by the extreme negative health impacts,” said Dr Michael Antoniou, molecular biologist at King’s College London

...GM crops have been approved for human consumption on the basis of 90-day animal feeding trials. But three months is the equivalent of late adolescence in rats, who can live for almost two years (700 days), and there have long been calls to study the effects over the course of a lifetime.

Probably should have read the warning label: “Don’t drink this stuff, it will kill you!”.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
Michael Taylor of Monsanto is Obama’s head of the FDA Food Safety.

Get your head out of the sand.

Yeah, you hear all kinds of sh*t these days. To begin with, it is unlikely Amish would be feeding deer, as they are farmers and deer are competitors for their livestock's feedcrops.

But what the hey, this is the Internet right?

You probably got so much of it that you’re immune to it.

That’s terrific Jeff! Why don’;t you investigate the meaning of Bt altered food.
It’s called Bacillus Thuringenisis, a mix of virus, bacteria and insect parts but...
if you are good with that go for it Smart Guy.

My husband’s been doing organic gardening for the last several years. I’ve been composting for 26 years. The soil is great, plants healthy enough that we can enjoy what food we get out of our little garden. He has gone natural all the way; and I’ve been astounded he agreed to it.

You’re posting facts and information. Is that allowed on FR these days?

Just barely, considering the paranoid BS smeared all over this thread. What the idiot know-nothings here fail to grasp is that any seed available today is "genetically manipulated" and harmless as the driven snow.

If you are silly enough to believe the CDC..have you seen their new digs in Atlanta with private mediatation rooms?
Puhleese!
The CDC is The Center for Disease Corruption.

Better stick with the NIH or Not in Our Hospital.

Bacillus Thuringenisis.

Funny post! Organic farmers are allowed to spray Bt on their crops...the same stuff that is in the seeds. Also, commonly found in most soils around peoples houses....it is everywhere! And it is not a mix of virus, bacteria and insect parts...it is a bacteria.

“They won’t know anything till they study this in higher forms of mammals.”

That experiment has been underway since they started feeding it to humans.

Its a race between the genetically modified plants directly killing us and GM plants and the Neonicotinoid insecticides from Monsanto and Bayer killing all the honey bees.

“whether GM foods play any part whatsoever in either live span.”

Ok lets look at the facts.
Crops that are considered as GMO’s have been around roughly 10 years? That of course would prove right away there is no connection to variations (if they do exist)on lifespans in different countries.

I just get cranky seeing misinformation/lack of information
spread about agriculture.
It's the same with global warming. People get sucked into theories about things with misinformation that is spread; and then don't take the time to figure out the science behind it. And to really use good scientific skepticism to question if something is true or false.

Come to remember, you’re right. Thanks. Tomatoes probably come from a tiny fruit that was originally slightly toxic. Not the most nutritious garden item, either. I will probably plant some fairly old, small, tough, short-season ones, though, because people like to eat tomatoes (cold climate here).

Correct. BT is a natural substance. They started using it as a natural safer alternative to the organophospates (really nasty stuff) that were used to control corn borers and rootworms in corn production.
When I farmed I used these organophosphates because that is all that was out there.
It may kill me yet!

Oh that’s effin’ hilarious!
There is a difference between non GMO and organic, but you are so dang funny I think you need to eat some more GMO.

Wonder why all of these folks over 50 in Asia and America are getting a new Aids like disease where immune systems collapse.
Bt is just the start, but please, keep munching away.

But probably not. You're part of one of the longest lived generations in history, and it grew up on such organophosphates.

Trains can move a ton of freight nearly 500 miles on a single gallon of fuel. Saw this on a TV ad last night. If trains can go 500 mpg, why can’t cars?

Because trains don't go 500 miles on a gallon. They can move one ton on a gallon for 500 miles but the entire train must use a gallon for each ton it moves.

They operate with steel wheels on steel rails (low friction), they seldom have steep hills to climb and once at cruising speed they don't have stop signs or red lights to make them come to a stop and get to speed again.

I don't know how many tons a hundred car freight train weighs, but keep in mind the entire train does not go 500 mile on a gallon. They are using a measurement for ton of freight. If the entire weight of the train and its freight were 100 tons, it uses 100 gallons per mile.

Rail shipment is a very efficient way to transport bulk goods and I too have seen that ad, but it is very deceptive when they break it down to the weight they move. Stand next to one of those big diesel electric engines on day and feel the ground around you shake as they rev the engine. Those suckers don't go 500 miles on a gallon.
