There is no gender gap. There is a marriage gap. A Sept. 13 poll I conducted (912 likely voters, national sample) found that while married white women back Romney by 55 to 40 percent, unmarried white women back Obama by 60-32! Since unmarried white women are 45 percent of all white women, this marriage gap poses a huge problem for Romney the central problem.
In his recent off-the-record comments, Romney characterized his opponents supporters as relying on government entitlements and handouts. He said that 47 percent of Americans get checks from the government and are likely to vote for the hand that feeds them: the Democratic Party.
He is half-right. Of those who get government checks, a bit more than half (about 30 percent of all Americans) get means-tested welfare payments through programs like Medicaid, food stamps, welfare, housing subsidies and such. The remaining 17 percent of the population do get government checks, but they are Social Security, Medicare, veterans benefits or the Earned Income Tax Credit. They get these benefits because they have paid into the Social Security and Medicare funds over the years or have served our country or work for a living but get supplemental benefits to get out of poverty.
But the ranks of those who get means-tested benefits are insufficient to win this election. It is only when they are joined by unmarried women some of whom get benefits but many of whom do not that Romneys opposition swells its numbers and becomes a threat.
The Democratic convention was aimed squarely and almost exclusively at these unmarried, white women. Its focus on abortion, contraception and equal pay all hark back to the partys historical advocacy of their rights and support for their difficult lives as single mothers.
But the reality is that it is not Republican insensitivity that is hurting Americas single mothers, but a failing economy. During the Obama administration, 90 percent of the job losses have been in womens jobs. Democrats answer that men lost their jobs at the start of the recession since they tend to work in cyclical fields responsive to the economys ups and downs, like construction. But the long-term stagnation of the economy has gone beyond those afflicted with the business cycle and have cut deeply into the ranks of women in occupations like teaching and nursing not traditionally dependent on cyclical changes in the economy.
Whether these single women work in the private sector, where Obamas economic failures have left them bereft, or in the public sector, where the economy has sapped tax revenues, they are still losing their jobs to the presidents economic policies.
Single women need to reconsider voting based on the old issues of abortion, contraception and equal pay. (Romney is a moderate on these issues.) But how about voting based on your ability to make a living?
Obviously, the feminization of poverty has left many single women dependent on government aid, be it daycare, subsidized housing, welfare, Medicaid or food stamps. But their larger interest is in getting good jobs at good pay like they did before Obama took office. Or have they given up? Are they so beaten down that they identify not with those who are looking to move up but with those who are stuck at the bottom?
Could it be that Obamas recession and economic stagnation and even his socialism are truly self-perpetuating? That the more he ruins our economy, the larger the base of government-dependent voters? Could this motivation have played a part in his adoption of policies that he might have known would lead to economic failure? Could it all be deliberate?
And, more importantly, will it work?
Not in the United States of America it wont. Ambition, competition, confidence and hard work still dominate the American spirit regardless of gender or marital status. Obamas lead will be short-lived. It will truly be he who, in fact, is betting against the American worker.
“Since unmarried white women are 45 percent of all white women, this marriage gap poses a huge problem for Romney the central problem. “
it does?? think about the make-up of married white women versus the make-up of unmarried white women then ask yourself; who’s more likely to vote, married white women or single white women???
Single women have Obama and the government.
This is nothing new. When Clinton was in trouble over Lewinskygate Howie Carr opened his radio show to women only and asked how they could support a philandering dirtbag. The answers were virtually unanimous: he was protecting their safety net, they wanted government as a backup, they were thinking of their kids, they weren’t looking for a husband they were looking for security. It’s a known fact women look to government to provide the support they can’t provide on their own. That’s the bad news. The good news is that Bush won 2 terms in spite of this and Romney can also. Perhaps the leecher types are too busy looking for handouts to vote.
unmarried women voting for dems are voting for the right to kill their children
of course, if thats the case... it explains why they’re unmarried
who wants to marry a freak that will kill your child without a thought?
Think of it, the economy will never get better and they will be a generation of old maids maybe living with the government as their husbands. The Government will give them free healthcare with free contraceptives, abortifactants and the odd abortion when they slip up. Hopefully they will die without issue alone with their cats.
I guess you’d be surprised.
Anyway, the breakup of the family- plenty of blame to go around- is a major, if not THE, problem.
Santorum talked about it- wrote about it too.
This married/unmarried gap is consistent with all experience in the trenches. All door-knockers I’ve known agree that when we talk to voters, married women see the safety-net as the nuclear family, then extended family, then the church and local voluntary organizations.
Promiscuous divorced and single women not only support abortion for obvious reasons, they also see the government as the safety-net. They are angry at their ex, their father, their married siblings. In my best precinct work I’ve carried the Black vote; 100% of the Hispanic vote; but always lost big the divorced/promiscuous single female vote when the 1 Hispanic and many Blacks who voted against my slate are identified by sexual status and not race.
At one door, the divorced woman said: “I’m getting married next month (just a couple days before election day) and I suppose I’ll have to vote Republican agsin.”
“. . .when they slip up”.
Let’s be careful to remember there are men involved. Some of the women are complete buffoons and sycophants, to be sure, but a lot are looking in the wrong place for a guy - who is not forced to get involved to begin with, but who takes off on her AND the child(ren)- like Obie will do to these silly women as soon as he’s elected.
My son married one. What a POS she was.
She aborted his child so she could get laid by her lover.
Wheren is that money coming from?
Women’s Voting Patterns in Election 2008
November 14, 2008
Unmarried women supported Barack Obama by a 70-to-29 percent margin...
These unmarried women voters joined with younger voters and people of color to create what GQR calls a new American electorate voters with a decided preference for liberal candidates.
Overall, women strongly supported Senator Obama over Senator McCain (56 percent for Obama, 43 percent for McCain). Men split their votes about evenly between the two presidential candidates, with 49 percent for Obama and 48 percent for McCain.

BINGO!
As a society we need to reverse the Sexual Revolution. Only when strong, stable families with working fathers and mothers caring for their children are again the norm will we get out of the mess we are in. Feminism and the Sexual Revolution are failed experiments that are threatening to destroy civilization.

Cheers!
If I ever get the notion to be with a woman again, she will be a Latina, although genetically speaking that is "white". There are scientifically only 3 "races". The other distinctions are ethnicity.
Amen!
Enjoy the consequences, just ahead, of western deindustrialization and the divorce/cohabitation rackets to break up the families of those who once made real industries thrive.
You get a kick out of playing class/sex/race political war games, don’t you?
Tell me again how you accurately tracked who I voted for, in any given election?
Brevity is the soul of wit.
That’s Shakespeare - to quote Max Calvado.
But what you say is true.
Interesting, indeed.
