ver two decades, the Boy Scouts of America failed to report hundreds of alleged child molesters to police and often hid the allegations from parents and the public.
A Los Angeles Times review of 1,600 confidential files dating from 1970 to 1991 has found that Scouting officials frequently urged admitted offenders to quietly resign — and helped many cover their tracks.
Volunteers and employees suspected of abuse were allowed to leave citing bogus reasons such as business demands, "chronic brain dysfunction" and duties at a Shakespeare festival.
The details are contained in the organization's confidential "perversion files," a blacklist of alleged molesters, that the Scouts have used internally since 1919. Scouts' lawyers around the country have been fighting in court to keep the files from public view.
As The Times reported in August, the blacklist often didn't work: Men expelled for alleged abuses slipped back into the program, only to be accused of molesting again. Now, a more extensive review has shown that Scouts sometimes abetted molesters by keeping allegations under wraps.
In the majority of cases, the Scouts learned of alleged abuse after it had been reported to authorities. But in more than 500 instances, the Scouts learned about it from boys, parents, staff members or anonymous tips.
In about 400 of those cases — 80% — there is no record of Scouting officials reporting the allegations to police. In more than 100 of the cases, officials actively sought to conceal the alleged abuse or allowed the suspects to hide it, The Times found.
In 1982, a Michigan Boy Scout camp director who learned of allegations of repeated abuse by a staff member told police he didn't promptly report them because his bosses wanted to protect the reputation of the Scouts and the accused staff member.

Exactly. The press hates the Boy Scouts and tries to malign them and destroy them because they teach Universal Truth (God). (Right and Wrong according to Judeo-Christian Ethics which can’t exist with “homosexual rights” ).
The fact is you can NEVER trust homosexuals to manage a bunch of boys—ever. By their very definition, they desire sex with the same and sex is how they define themselves.
Homosexuals took over the boy scouts in Germany in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s which led to orgies in the woods and a National Vice of Homosexuality becoming the major activity of Germans. This national vice was dominate in forming the Weimar Republic—and creating all their vulgar “art” at the time. In fact, the SA Brownshirts and Hitler were homosexual and the abuse of the Hitler Youth was common.
All homosexual cultures use boys for sex. Pederasty becomes normal because it is a learned behavior—by being abused as children. Anyone who advocates for homosexual “Rights’ are advocating for the raping of boys.
The boy scouts do no allow gay scout leaders in the same way that the Catholics do not allow gay priests but imagine the uproar if either orgainzation purged suspected homos. You would have cries of witch hunt, congressional hearings, and the whole nine yards as the queers are politically powerful.
Both organizations attract homosexuals because it puts them in proximity to young boys who see them as an authority figure. It appears that the the scouts made the same mistake as the Catholics of shuffling around the homosexuals that made it into the system as opposed to outing them and dealing with the fall out.
The proper way to treat the incidents of molestation is to put the pervert up for justice, settle the civil suit and issue statements to effect of “we try diligently to prevent homosexuals from infiltrating our ranks and this is why.”

The fact that they allow for the worship of GOD, the GAYS want to be scout leaders, and GIRLS want to be boy scouts. So, they built a new headquarters which made it hard for the 3-G's to steal any info. The gays resorted to convincing a judge to force Scouting to hand over the files.
What do the files show? That Scouting has been vigilant at getting rid of any scoutmaster or leader they deem to be unsuitable. The BSA has no authority to put anyone in jail. The BSA wants to do its job and not get involved in court cases putting people in jail.

The files show that they have had to contend with 600 perverts out of the many, many tens of thousands of scout leaders since 1919.
The ordinary scout leader is someone who gives up his extra time he could be doing other stuff in order to help form young men into men. Most scout leaders have sons of their own in the same scout troop. Boys who work as leaders within their troop usually go on to join the military and become leaders there. Scouting tends to squeeze out a boy's wimp factor. Scout leaders are serious about their work to mold young men. And they also work hard to keep the fairies out.
It is only natural that the BSA would be a target. Going to a Scouting campout is like stepping back in time, when a kid could enjoy camping with his buddies, enjoy the out of doors and learn to be a man. The goal of Scouting is to mold men into being real men and they are succeeding in their work.
Seems to me that this further bolsters the Scouts’ claim that they have the right to say who and who cannot be scouts and scout leaders.
This is another issue where Romney and Obama agree. They both believe that gays should be allowed to participate in Boy Scouts. In fact during the Salt Lake Olympics Romney refused to let the Boy Scouts participate as volunteer, he said it was because they were minors. When it was pointed out that other minors were allowed to participate he said they could volunteer but they could not wear their uniforms. This had never been done at other Olympics and has not been done sense. He did not want to offend the gays. He later bragged he would be better for gays than Ted Kennedy. His gay marriage and same sex adoptions have proven that true.

One would think ALL of them. After all, they molested BOY scouts, right?

This shameful past brought out in law suits, is exactly why they have zero tolerance, as an organization, for exposing boys to the care and authority of queers. There was a huge, nation-wide pedophilla ring operating in the scouts. The scouts offers great access to boys in their scout activities.
The Catholic church should be doing the same thing.

Any man molesting a boy is involved in gay sex - is gay. Even if he has a beard, he’s a homo if he is engaging in gay sexual behaviors with other males. Duh!
They do not ban gays from the boy scouts, they ban open discussion and gay activities because it is NOT part of their program. I knew of a Dist Executive that was gay, he is still employed there, but NOT openly gay. All this mess over nothing at all. The gays want to dance around and say look at me, I am gay. THE BSA will not allow gayness as part of their curriculum and it is not discussed for the sake of the boys. Being a homosexual is not a merit badge so it is not to be discussed.
When a boy comes forward and says “Scoutmaster X sexually abused me” then Scoutmaster X is “suspected of abuse”.
The problem was that they didn’t report it to authorities but swept it under the rug and after numerous “suspicions” allowed the offender to resign in good standing with the Boy Scouts.
“Hey X was a former Scoutmaster, and left only for work related reasons - lets hire him as camp director for our summer camp for young boys.”
It was demented and sick - a Penn State atmosphere where such conduct was allowed to be ignored because nobody wanted to raise a stink.
I worked for a council, it was my job to do the criminal back ground checks. Laid off because of the economy.
I din’t mean the story was an attack on the Scouts. I meant people, almost always from the Left, who attack the Scouts as an Org for not, for instance allowing Gay leaders and Atheists in.
No. This is the beginning of what will be a wave of these stories. The Oregon State Supreme Court recently upheld a decision to require the BSA to turn over thousands of records going back decades on Scouting volunteers who were reported, or banned, from Scouting, including for non-sexual abuse.
Abuse occurs in all Scouting units with various types of sponsors. The case at issue, involving Scout Leader Timur Dykes, wasn't a Catholic unit as seemingly suggested above. It was an LDS unit in the Cascade Pacific Council where the bishop to whom Dykes confessed did not report the incident, and Dykes was subsequently allowed to serve in two additional positions.
The COJCOLDS settled out of court. The BSA and the Cascade Pacific Council did not. The jury found all three parties (BSA, CPC, and LDS) liable, and ordered the BSA to turn over the records.
So now the BSA will have a reputation like that of the Catholic Church. And gay advocates will be able to point out that it is not gay scout leaders that needed to be kept out of the Scouts, but rather pedophiles, which they INSIST are two separate and contradictory things. The timing is telling, too. Of course suppression is wrong, but there is more to this story than meets the eye.

I would agree but do we have those details? In scouts, if you were left alone at camp site with the boys that would be a violation and subject a man to suspicion. As a merit badge counselor, I could not meet a boy in a room alone. If I did, I could be under suspicion.
No doubt the Boy Scouts of America suspect someone of molestation for no reason at all!/s
Being alone with a boyscout would NOT be suspicious of child molestation back then - it only recently became the policy that they should never be alone with a boyscout. And if they were - it would be a violation of policy - not suspicion of molestation.
What do you think entails “suspicion” of sexual abuse of a boyscout?
And do you think they were correct in not reporting the suspicions to the authorities and instead keeping it in a secret file and allowing the suspicious molester to move on with a good record?
