Gun Sales Hinge on Obama Re-Election
WSJ ^

Posted on 09/14/2012 3:28:35 PM PDT by Red in Blue PA

As Cabela's Inc. CAB +0.45%prepares the selection of guns it will sell for the holiday season and winter hunting, the outdoor-gear retailer has two plans: one if President Barack Obama is re-elected, and one if he isn't.

The Sidney, Neb.-based retailer and other companies in the guns-and-ammo business say if Mr. Obama wins a second term they are preparing for a surge in sales—the same as they saw after he was elected in 2008—from buyers fearful the president would back policies to make buying a gun more difficult. If Republican challenger Mitt Romney wins, though, the chain plans to stock more items such as waterproof boots and camouflage hunting gear.

"If Mitt Romney is elected and there's no perceived threat on the freedom to own guns, people might decide to spend disposable income on things like outerwear instead," said Joe Arterburn, a Cabela's spokesman.

That’s good shootin’ for sure.

For me, I don’t hardly practice shooting my pistol much beyond 25 yards. When I think about a potential shoot, why would I be shooting my PISTOL, in a self-defense scenario, 50 yards?

But I DO admire your shooting ability.

I got lucky, a friend works at a car dealer. :>)

Back when I was getting ready for SASS matches I acquired a pair of Pietta 1858 New Army .44’s with sequential serial numbers. Serious health issues made me drop the idea of matches though. Really like the Piettas even though the hand and bolt springs broke. Flat bolts were replaced with home made wire springs and hand springs from VTI. R&D conversion cylinders for .45 LC worked real well with BP cartridge loads, to go with the Rossi 1892 SRC (no lock).

Smoke, fire, and the smell of brimstone.

This may come as a shock to you, but writing English correctly is being polite to your readers.

I note that you cannot understand that a sentence starts with the initial word capitalized. Fell asleep in English classes, did you?

"If Mitt Romney is elected and there's no perceived a less severe threat on the freedom to own guns, people might decide to spend disposable income on things like outerwear instead," said Joe Arterburn, a Cabela's spokesman.

Corrected for accuracy. Can't imagine ANY politician being NO threat to our civil rights, and Romney more than some others (though obviously far less bad than Obama).

No, don't get me wrong. These days I shoot 1911s and 4” .357s mostly. For self defense. I don't shoot them near that far, too short of sight radius.

Those guns we shot for hunting with. A couple bears and a few deer fell to them. Never got that close to an elk with my .44 though.

I also shoot an AR more than my ought six any more. But I really like the wheel guns and bolt rifles. Just that self loading stuff is more practical these days. And short pump shotguns.

I use PV solar, because the nearest hookup is miles away. But let’s say a repudiation of debt and currency adjustment are done. The National Guard can secure and run power plants, and their families would be absolutely secured in advance (won’t post details about that to any public discussion).

A particularly damaging hurricane, for example, could cut power, though. I went through one over 40 years ago, and it pretty much flattened the city. All of the lines were down, and the plants, destroyed. Power was out for weeks. There was no real trouble.

A very small contingent of Internet users are concerned and go on about “marshal law.” Marshal law’s not so bad. It deals with looters post haste. With curfews and looters notified that they’ll be shot, they stay put.

Okay, another scenario: an EMP burst launched by, say, Iran. That would set us back, and humanitarian efforts would be overwhelmed.

There’s the scenario. Answer: bomb Iran now!

I tend to buy more for when theres no more at the stores administrations or extreme costs or BS paper fodder rules and regs to buy allotted 10 rounds a year type regulation.

Agree on the fighting off hordes of bugger pickers .... yeah I have common caliber PDW’s so a few cases stored back for such over the long term but my hunting caliber is also my PDW caliber so wild game harvested or wilding gaming on me and mine ...... same caliber, common reloading components and dies, molds etc ..... easy day prep.

Last time Clintonistas started this crap of socialist threats against ammo etc I went down and bought components such as primers, new and surplus brass, powder and supplies to roll my own .

My best defense purchases now for home and hearth is dog food for my Rotts. They are better than a 12 gauge and a 12 ft tall razor wire topped fence IMO.

I shoot competition, hunt and practice so I burn through ammo easily. Thus my BLOAT comment.....:o)

Stay safe !

I am gonna try that in the morning as I use a 12 ga double for a house gun and like to reload my own with a MEC . Casting slugs in a 2x4...LMAO funny yet , hey , it works !

Ya’ll Stay Safe !

.45’s great for defense, Blueflag. But why would some of us practice firing revolvers at targets beyond 25 yards? ‘Cause that might be all that we’re carrying when needed. It’s not always quite as practical to carry a rifle or shotgun. Some folks practice lobbing heavy (well over 250 gr.), hardened lead, long, flat-nosed bullets out of iron-sighted revolvers at targets up to 200 yards.

MileHi, I’m glad to live in a place that’s not surrounded by nearby forest now. No herds of sometimes gigantic, brown-haired, inquisitive beasts here (as on a much more forested and populated part of the Range years ago). Only a very few smaller, black ones that peacefully mind their own business. :-)

If you take a bit of pains with the drilling, you can even score the walls of the hole and core out the lead to simulate a factory slug. I like the mini balls best though. When you load your own, you can adjust powder to get max damage inside twenty yards. ... Sold all my stuff though, to a guy whose name I didn;t catch. He paid cash though ... gonna miss those tools don’tchaknow.
