REPORTS: No Live Ammo for Marines

U.S. Marines defending the American embassy in Egypt were not permitted by the State Department to carry live ammunition, limiting their ability to respond to attacks like those this week on the U.S. consulate in Cairo.

Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson “did not permit U.S. Marine guards to carry live ammunition,” according to multiple reports on U.S. Marine Corps blogs spotted by Nightwatch. “She neutralized any U.S. military capability that was dedicated to preserve her life and protect the US Embassy.”

If true, the reports indicate that Patterson shirked her obligation to protect U.S. interests, Nightwatch states.

This has been going on for years, including the Bush administration.

Military can’t even hold rifles when they are patrolling our military bases. They ‘pretend’ to carry guns.

Americans need to start admitting the full level of communist ideology permeating both parties and all of our government.

SOMEBODY needs to ask 0bama WHY in a civilized nation like ours, contrasted with the radical goons and thugs in Egypt, Libya, etc., the White House security staff need ammo for their guns, after all: if our Marines are denied ammo in hazardous duty posts, why on Earth would the Secret Service and White House security staff need to have ammo here at home?

When was the last time that a bunch of Islamic terrorists tried to storm the White House? NEVER! So why all the guns, ammo and security?

Given the status of the diplomatic facility, I can understand why. There should have been limitations on what kind of communications equipment and level of classified material could be held at the site. We have similar arrangements at small consulates.

This is outrageous. When the US military sees a mob of murderous jihadists storming US terrority (while chanting they are all Osamas), that is a target rich environment. Bullets and bombs are needed.

Uh, Nana? How about maybe some specifics here, like 'when', 'where', context, etc? I've never been a fan of Mitt, and I'm voting not so much FOR Mitt, as I'm voting AGAINST 0bama, but I've never heard him 'mocking our military' in fact if that were the case, the 'Rats and their leftist sockpuppets would have been beating him over the head with it 24/7, so I remain skeptical of that in lieu of actual hard evidence.

Further Marine spokesman at Pentagon Lt Col Chris Hughes says these reports are NOT true. This is on the record:

“The Ambassador and RSO have been completely and appropriately engaged with the security situation. No restrictions on weapons or weapons status have been imposed. This information comes from the Det Commander at AMEMB Cairo.”

No American soldier should ever be put in a place of danger without being properly armed. If Obama wants to staff the embassy with tour guides, let him recruit from the thousands of Democrat staffers getting fat and lazy in Washington. Stop using the Marines as props!

I wonder if anyone in Congress has the brass to initiate a bill to prohibit anyone in the military from being assigned to any overseas posting without being fully armed with loaded weapons and an appropriate number of extra magazines, and grenades. Would such a bill receive the 2/3 votes necessary to override a PResidential veto?
