The Democratic National Conventions final night included a stirring tribute to Americas veterans from a retired naval four-star admiral, complete with a backdrop of jets flying over a row of proud warships. But convention organizers may soon regret it.
Norman Polmar, author of The Naval Institute Guide to the Soviet Navy and other military handbooks, told the Navy Times on Tuesday that the ships were Russian vessels.
The ships are definitely Russian, Polmar told the military newspaper. Theres no question of that in my mind. The ships depicted in the Democrats backdrop had radar designs that the U.S. fleet doesnt use.
Other experts said the image displayed on giant video screens inside the Times Warner Cable Arena was a Photoshopped composite showing U.S. trainer jets, F-5s, flying over the Russian ships.
Retired Adm. John Nathman, who formerly commanded Fleet Forces Command, honored veterans Thursday night during the hour before President Obama accepted his partys nomination for a second four-year term in the White House.
Rob Barker, a former naval electronics warfare technician, first identified the ships as Russian in design, and was able to identify the ship in the foreground as a specific vessel the Kara-class cruiser Kerch.
I was kind of in shock, Barker told the Navy Times. An immediate apology [from the DNC] would be very nice. Maybe acknowledge the fact that yes, they screwed up.
Polmar also recognized a blue X on one of the ships flags, a Russian navy symbol fashioned after a St. Andrews Cross.
A.D. Baker III, a retired analyst who worked in the Office of Naval Intelligence, told Navy Times that the four ships, at the time the photo was taken, constituted the entire major surface combatant component of the [Russian] Black Sea Fleet.
He said the photo was likely at least six years old.
It was a definite message by someone.
Given the average democrat thinks all guns are assault rifles, and use “clips” and “magazines” interchageably, I can see that some people there probably would not have noticed. I am convinced however the higher ups running the convention knew and wanted this shown this way.
So were most of the people there.
They are the brightest of anyone in the 57 states when it comes to military thingies.
Just ask any Corpseman.
Ooops! Big mistake - We are sincerely sorry. We had no idea these were Commmunist Russian ships.
We thought they were Communist Chinese ships.
The retired Admired probably didn’t even noticed them. He probably taken no part of the selection process. He most likely walked out there, saw some ships that looked old and didn’t really pay much attention. If he did notice he most likely wouldnt say anything there on stage.
Just another trick by Axelrod (and the other commies) to change the topic of conversation away from energy, the economy and jobs.
Sooooooo, why not shut down all U.S. ships and shut down Navy Recruiting? Let the Reds have complete access to our bases and shipyards, like Norfolk, Long Beach, Newport, Grotten, Pascagoula, Bath, Charleston, etc, etc, etc. Even give them free fuel for their ships.
Come now Comrades. We need to embrace the patriotic Russian warships, even if they train their weapons on us.
It is all part of the “New Flexibility” in the next four years, which will save money from paying for those old US nuclear weapons we will retire so we can spend more money on “Green Energy” and indirectly, Democratic crony capitalistic funding.
We should welcome our new Chinese and Russian overlords.
Wasn’t that one of Stalin’s favorite political slogans???
Of course it was.
I really, really hate Obama.
They are the stupid party.
Oops
this is like that navy commercial, the one where it says we are protecting the 5 oceans... can anyone name the 5 oceans?
when I went to school, there were only 4...
I’m more inclined to think some radical red Junior Woodchuck assigned to make the vid thought it would be cute to slip that into the presentation as a poke in the eye to the US and conservatives in particular.
Better yet, make them sign a contract that requires the ships be run on algae fuel at $50/gallon. We can bankrupt the Russians again, just like Reagan did!
Stupid is as stupid does.
The graphic artist used the best photo she could find on Google because it is the thought that counts. War ships are war ships to a pacifist ninnie
Bet ya some DNC intern googled "Navy vessles" and grabbed the first image he/she/it saw. Quality control consisted of looking at the image and saying "Yep, those are ships alright!"
