Bear-Hugging Pizzeria Owner Feel Boycott After Obama Visit

Pizza and politics may not mix, at least a restaurant owner photographed bear-hugging President Obama.

Scott Van Duzer, the owner of the Florida pizza shop, struck fame for a photograph of him lifting President Barack Obama off the floor with a bear hug at his Big Apple Pizza & Pasta Restaurant in Fort Pierce in Sunday during a last-minute visit from the Commander-in-Chief.

The photograph made the front pages of newspapers around the country and the image was an Internet sensation at warp speed.

The good will was short-lived for Van Duzer though. He told Politico that people are boycotting his business because of the famous presidential hug.

“People are saying a lot of bad things and boycotting my restaurant,” Scott Van Duzer, 46, told Politico. “There’s no middle line anymore, and that’s exactly what’s wrong with our country right now.”

There is no boycott. The entire thing was made up:
1. To show Obama is a normal regular type of guy who is loved by small business owners, contrary to what Republicans put forth in their convention.
2. For the Pizza shop owner, he hopes that a supposed boycott will generate a Chic-Fil-A windfall of support and make his struggling pizza shop famous.

He hasn’t done anything deserving of a boycott.

Good rule for a small business - don't alienate half your customers unless you don't need their business.

Maybe some people don't want to spend their money to enrich a business owner who supports or enables a politician they have serious disagreements with

Nothing personal but they might prefer supporting business owners of like mind and temperment.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the guy. He hasn’t done anything deserving of a boycott.

I agree with you, but Mr Van Duzer indicated by his statement that he knows he is living in politically charged times. And knowing that, his actions were, at the very least, ill advised.

government pizza vouchers

Moochelle doesn't allow children or lefties to eat pizza. This guy is screwed.

He didn't HAVE TO hug Dick Obama, the Great Destroyer.

There is no boycott.

I totally agree. I have yet to hear of any...uhm... radical Conservative groups rally for a boycott of this place.

"He hasn’t done anything deserving of a boycott."
He holds himself out has a REPUBLICAN who voted for Obama in 2008. In 4 years, assuming he hasn't been in a coma he's seen the results of Obama's "leadership".

As a business owner he must know the "You didn't build that" crap is just that. Unless everything he says is just that.

BTW - alienating half of your customer base is just out and out stupid.

Now strangely he's had a trip to the White House, sets up a Photo Op of a REPUBLICAN supporting Obama, clearly for political purposes and claims he'll vote for Obama again.

Maybe this is why we came up with the term "RINO".

With our Tea Party awakening its open season on RINOS. Watch out! ;-)

He’s free to say whatever he wants, and we’re free to boycott.

Freedom of Speech does not mean freedom from the consequences.

Of course you're free to walk right into whatever scheme the left cooks up to counter their own past idiocies. I'd hope you'd see how... prearranged the whole thing was and that you'd get the sense that something was up.

But, maybe not. So, certainly, go right ahead and do whatever you want to do. You're entitled to do it. Just don't be surprised when you're beaten over the head with it by the very people you think you're opposing by doing so.

As a person who lives close enough to potentially be a customer of his, let me say this; Shut up and make pizza.

I am aware that this guy holds fund raisers for anything and everything needed in the community. That is non-partisan. The minute he crossed that line and made the statement that he's a republican who will be voting for Obama, he made himself fair game. I suggest he petition his precious Obama for permission to accept food stamps. If he doesn't, he'll have shot himself in the foot and hopefully, learned a valuable albeit painful, lesson.
